New Comics This Wednesday, May 22

Superior Spider-Man #10Did you have a chance to read The Movement from DC Comics when it came out a couple weeks ago? Well this week sees the start of its sister series with The Green Team #1! It’s time for us to, as they say, “Meet the 1%.” Also from DC, look for the concluding chapters of “Wrath of the First Lantern” in Green Lantern #20 and Green Lantern New Guardians #20. Plus, there’s Batman: Li’l Gotham #2, Batman: The Dark Knight #20 and Batman Incorporated #11 representing the Batman family and much more!

Superior Spider-Man #10 leads the way for Marvel this week, so I guess we’ll see how the exorcism of Peter Parker went, but there’s plenty more, too. For starters, there’s Uncanny X-Men #6, Deadpool#10, X-Men Legacy #11 and Ultimate Comics Wolverine #4 (of 4) representing the X-Men, while Uncanny Avengers #8AU and A+X #8 also representing the X-Men (but also representing the Avengers). And I can’t forget to mention Avengers #12.

It looks to be a little lighter on the “Everything Else” front, but we’re still looking forward to The Massive #12, Lobster Johnson: Satan Smells a Rat, and Mind MGMT #11 from Dark Horse, and GI Joe Cobra Files #2 from IDW. Not to mention the fact that it’s a double Adventure Time week with Adventure Time #16 and Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake #5 (of 6)!

Legend of Luther Strode #5This week looks to be a little on the lighter side, but you can bet there’s still plenty to whet your comics whistle. Starting with Marvel’s Age of Ultron #8 (of 10)! This event has built into one of the more intriguing stories in comics right now and we’re definitely curious to see where it goes. Also from Marvel, there’s Avengers Enemy Within #1, the opening salvo to the Avengers/Captain Marvel crossover. Then there’s Iron Man #10, Nova #4, Wolverine and the X-Men #29, FF #7 and more!

On the DC front, looks like a big week for the Batman supporting cast as we’re set to get Catwoman #20, Batwoman #20, Batgirl #20, Nightwing #20 and Red Hood and the Outlaws #20! Plenty more from DC, too, including Wonder Woman #20, Supergirl #20 and Justice League of America’s Vibe #3. From the Vertigo stable, always nice to see Fables!

The non-Big Two publishers have some solid releases, including Legend of Luther Strode  #5 (of 6) and Fatale #14  from Image; Conan the Barbarian #16 from Dark Horse; Battlestar Galactica #1 from Dynamite; and Regular Show #1 from BOOM!

Thanos Rising #2It may be the week of Free Comic Book Day, but we’re still getting new comics this Wednesday! And those comics are led by Thanos Rising #2 from Marvel Comics! It’s the second issue of the mini-series about the origin of the big Avengers baddie. Also from Marvel look for Age of Ultron #7 (of 10), All New X-Men #11, Hawkeye #10, Indestructible Hulk #7 and Superior Spider-Man #9, which makes for quite a murderer’s row of our favorite Marvel NOW! titles! Also look for a couple different Iron Man titles, including Iron Man #258.1 and Iron Man: The Coming of Melter #1!

As for DC, gotta go with Detective Comics #20 from John Layman and Jason Fabok. Also, Animal Man #20, which follows up on an excellent issue #19; Green Arrow #20, which continues Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino’s so-far stunning run on the title; and The Movement #1 from Gail Simone. There’s also Batman Lil Gotham #1, which brings to print the series by Dustin Nguyen that depicts the Batman family as little kids! Also look for Batgirl #19, Batman and Red Robin #19 and Batman Arkham Unhinged #13! DC also has Constantine #2, Green Lantern Corps #19, Suicide Squad #19 and the second Swamp Thing TPB!

Guardians of the Galaxy #1The Age of Ultron continues this week! Not only in the pages of Age of Ultron #3 (of 10), but also in Fantastic Four #5AU and Superior Spider-Man #6AU! Nope, that’s not a typo; Superior Spider-Man #6 came out last week and Superior Spider-Man #6AU comes out this week! Those who’ve been reading Age of Ultron know that it’s essentially a What If? story so we have to assume that these tie-in issues are much the same. Very curious to see how they connect! Also from Marvel, there’s Guardians of the Galaxy #1 (following up on an excellent #0 issue), Uncanny Avengers #5, Wolverine and the X-Men #27, Thunderbolts #7 and the Avengers vs. X-Men TP!

Over at DC, look for Batman Incorporated #9, the first issue following the sold-out issue #8 in which we saw the death of Damian Wayne. Then there’s I Vampire #18, Red Lanterns #18, Justice League Dark #18 and more! While at Vertigo we see the newest collections of both American Vampire and Unwritten.

Constantine #1DC Comics is firing on all cylinders this week with numerous noteworthy releases! For starters, out of the pages of Justice League Dark comes Constantine #1, written by Robert Venditti with art by Renato Guedes! And speaking of the Justice League books, look for no fewer than THREE titles bearing that distinction: Justice League #18, Justice League of America #2 and Justice League of America’s Vibe #2! (It really is Justice for All this week!) Not a bad week for Batman’s supporting cast either, as we’re set to get Batwoman #18, Catwoman #18, Birds of Prey #18, Nightwing #18 and Red Hood and the Outlaws #18! Finally, as far as Batman goes, look for the second collection of Scott Snyder’s Batman to come out in hardcover while the first gets collected in trade paperback.

There’s All New X-Men #9, Avengers #8, New Avengers #4, Superior Spider-Man #6, Indestructible Hulk #5, Daredevil #24 and Nova #2! Phew! Plus, check out X-Termination #1 (of 2), which kicks off the X-Termination event, joining together the teams from Astonishing X-Men, Age of Apocalypse and X-Treme X-Men, and spinning out of the pages of Uncanny X-Force.

Two of our favorite Image Comics are coming out this week — nay, two of our favorite comics from any publisher! — with Chew #32 and Saga #11. While Dark Horse is rolling with Conan the Barbarian #14. And there’s plenty more, too!

While Batman and Robin #18 marks the first post-Death of Damian Wayne issue of that title! There’s also Batgirl #18 and Batman Arkham Unihinged #12. Also look for Katana #2 (the first issue was good!), Suicide Squad #18 and the second trade paperback of I Vampire.

All three are high-profile titles and all three have gotten off to excellent starts. Also from Marvel this week, look for Guardians of the Galaxy #0.1 from Brian Michael Bendis and Steve McNiven, which marks the return of the legendary cosmic saga! There’s also Young Avengers #2, Avengers Arena #5, FF #4, Thunderbolts #56 and, of course, Hawkeye #8!

Justice League of America #1DC and Marvel both have big #1 issues hitting the stands this week! But, since Marvel has been stealing a lot of the spotlight recently, we’ll give the lead to DC Comics and Justice League of America #1! Geoff Johns and David Finch team up to tell the tale of, as Johns says, a "very different kind of superhero team." (And yes, they are hoisting a Pennsylvania flag in the image at right, but we’ll have plenty of Maryland covers, too!) Also look for Justice League of America’s Vibe #1, written by Johns with Andrew Kreisberg and starring… Vibe! We’re also set to kick off a huge new chapter in the Green Lantern books called Wrath of the First Lantern! Look for it in Green Lantern #17, Green Lantern Corps #17 and Green Lantern New Guardians #17!

The big Marvel #1 book we mentioned was Nova #1 from Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness! Look out for the return of the Human Rocket! We’re also curious about Morbius the Living Vampire #2, the first issue of which we found very interesting and unique amongst the other Marvel NOW! titles. And speaking of Marvel NOW!, also look for Avengers #6, Indestructible Hulk #4, Thor God of Thunder #5, Superior Spider-Man #4 and Savage Wolverine #2! I think you can safely classify all of those as heavy hitters.

From Image, there’s Saga #10! Arguably the best comic book being published right now. Also from Image, the conclusion to Grant Morrison’s trippy mini-series Happy. Plus, Conan the Barbarian #13 from Dark Horse, GI Joe #1 from IDW and much more!

Plenty more Bat-books coming out, too, including Batgirl #17, Batman and Robin #17 and Batman Arkham Unhinged #11, not to mention the second Batman hardcover collection! Also look for Katana #1, a new series spinning out of next week’s Justice League of America.

And be sure to look for Daredevil: End of Days #5 (of 8), Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #20, Hit-Girl #5 and more, including the long lost Scarlet #6!

Over at DC, gotta go with Detective Comics #17. It’s been a stand-out series, both in terms of Death of the Family and Batman books, but also in its own right! Meanwhile, Rotworld continues in Animal Man #17 and Swamp Thing #17. There’s also Legends of the Dark Knight #5, Phantom Stranger #5, Earth 2 #9 and World’s Finest #9!

Dollar Bill #1This week we’ll lead with DC Comics and Before Watchmen! The event is definitely winding down, but we still have one more new title to debut before all is said and done. That is of course Before Watchmen: Dollar Bill #1, a one-shot by Len Wein and Steve Rude! But that’s not the only #1 from DC this week. Also look for Injustice: Gods Among Us #1, the first issue of a series based on DC’s new video game. There’s also Deadpool Killustrated #1 (of 4), which follows the Merc with a Mouth as he kills characters from literary classics. Genius. Add on A+X #4, FF#3, Uncanny Avengers #3 and more for a solid week!

Savage Wolverine #1I feel like I’ve been leading with Marvel a lot recently… so I’m just going to keep that trend going and lead off with Savage Wolverine #1! Yes indeed, the character who didn’t ever have an adjective now has one! As provided by writer and artist Frank Cho! Also look for the All New X-Men #6, which is notable because I believe it’s the first time we’ve seen the "NOW2" notation, which indicates the beginning of a new story arc! There’s also Indestructible Hulk #3, New Avengers #2, Daredevil #22 and,one we’re really looking forward to, X-Factor #250!

Over at DC, it’s a mighty week for the Bat-books, as we’re set to get Batman #16, Batgirl #16 and Batman and Robin #16! All tie in to the epic Death of the Family story and all have been excellent within that story. Also be sure to check out Threshold #1, which spins out of Green Lantern: New Guardians! Finally, only one Vertigo release this week, but it’s a good one: Fables Vol. 17!

Meanwhile, Saga #9 is coming out over at Image, which I happen to know is enough just by itself to get a few of you in here on Wednesday! The next Invincible TPB comes out as well.

Superior Spider-Man #1I was gonna mix things up this week by starting with a non-Big Two book, but all the buzz and kerfuffle surrounding Amazing Spider-Man #700 forces me to lead with Superior Spider-Man #1, starring the one and only Doc Ock! We’re very curious to see what Dan Slott has up his sleeve on this one, arguably the biggest development in Spider-Man in years. There are also numerous other Marvel NOW! books, as well, like Avengers Arena #3, Thor God of Thunder #4, X-Men Legacy #4, Cable and X-Force #3, Fantastic Four #3 and much more!

Detective Comics #16 leads the way for DC this week, as John Layman continues his superb run, with this issue also flagged as a Death of the Family tie-in! Also be sure to check out Animal Man #16, Swamp Thing #16, Earth 2 #8, Batwing #16 and Legends of the Dark Knight #4, not to mention several new trades and hardcovers. Plus, on the Vertigo tip, be sure to check out the Sweet Tooth #40, the final issue of the series!
