What is Cosmic Comix Conversations?

The Cosmic Comix Conversations podcast is a monthly audio program produced here at the store in which we discuss the latest events in the world of comics. Produced by Ken Farnsworth and hosted by Rusty Simonetta, the show has a regular panel of Jim Martin, James McGuinn, and Greg Flynn.

We mostly talk about the latest comics, movies and the comic book community in general, but occasionally we stray into other territory, too. It all depends on the week.

We started the Conversations way back when on August 28, 2005; our first foray into original programming for our patrons! It began with the purpose of letting comic book fans know about some of the books on the rack that they may not have seen or read or even heard of. There are so many new comic books released every week and so many of them are worthwhile. We figured that with a group of people, all of whom have different tastes, the show could expose listeners to a much wider range of titles.

Going back further, the idea began as a way to recreate the conversations that go on in the store on a regular basis. We thought, "why not sit ourselves down and put it on tape?" (Or on the internet as it turns out.) Even though comics are by design a very individual activity, we’ve found that many readers want to talk about them with other readers. What’s good? What’s not? What’s new? What’s HOT?! In that way, comics have become a very social activity as well, and we try to capture that idea with each episode of Cosmic Comix Conversations.

In our first year, the hope was to establish the show, the ins and outs of production and what we wanted to accomplish. In year two, we grew into a bigger cast with a wide range of personalities and the show began to find its feet. In the third year, which just came to a close at the end of August 2008, we think we have found the perfect balance of useful information and entertainment value for our listeners. As we enter the fourth year, we’re proud to say that Cosmic Comix Conversations is now available on iTunes. Whether you listen there or continue to listen on our website, we hope you enjoy the show.

To all those who have contributed to Conversations both past and present – Ron, Matthew, Frank and everybody else – we send out a hearty THANK YOU.

Each program is approximately one hour long, and if you have thoughts or opinions on how we can continue to improve upon the show, please don’t hesitate to comment! Thanks for listening!
