Best Book of the Week Poll – May 24

Oh man, can it be?! Is this real life?! Rusty’s pick in last week’s poll did not win Best Book of the Week. If you’ve been following these posts in the past couple of weeks, you’re aware that Rusty’s predictions have been pretty much spot-on. If Cable and X-Force #8 didn’t win first place, then who did? Age of Ultron #8 was a clear first choice winner as the Best Book of the Week! If you’ll recall, I mentioned a possible four-way tie and guess what? Coming in a MASSIVE 11 votes behind, Cable and X-Force #8, Doomsday .1 #1, Nova #4, and Fables #129 equally came in second place! (Rusty wasn’t entirely far off with Cable and X-Force #8, but still!) Last but not least, third place goes to yet ANOTHER (another!?) four-way tie between Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #23, Adventure Time: Playing with Fire GN,  Nightwing #20, and Legend of Luther Strode #5.  Guys, I was only joking with the four-way tie thing.

Last week, you guys voted that the poll’s list was “weak sauce” and left a few suggestions in the comments. It may appear like that again since this week’s list is a tad bit short. Rusty only listed a mere five books in his nominees list and cast his vote for GI Joe: Cobra Files #2 as the best book. Nevertheless, there are some promising books. Also, for the first time ever we see not one, but TWO Adventure Time books on the list. I appreciate the amount of love growing for Adventure Time here. I have very high hopes for them. So, without further adieu here is the poll:

Best Book of the Week Poll – May 17

Alright, Rusty, what gives? How have most (if not all) of your predictions been so SPOT ON?! As y’all might have assumed, in this past week’s poll Thor: God of Thunder #8 took the poll by storm and won Best Book of the Week. By a whopping NINE votes behind comes Avengers#11 in second place. Finally, we have (again!) three third place winners: Walking Dead #110, Suicide Squad #20, and Batman and Red Hood #20. I’m noticing some definite trends here… though I will say it was refreshing to see such a high number of votes for a single book.

Moving on to this week, Rusty mentioned Doomsday .1 #1 on his nominees post, but he highly doubts it’ll win. I’ll still add it to the poll though and see where it goes. That said, he voted Cable and X-Force #8 as this week’s Best Book of the Week. With the way things have been going, I’m just gonna say right now Cable and X-Force will be a definite win. As far as the other books go, for all I know we might see a four-way tie. Anyway, enough yapping. Here’s the poll!

What was the Best Book of the Week?

  • Age of Ultron #8 (14 Votes)
  • These books are total weak sauce. You can do better than this! (5 Votes)
  • Cable and X-Force #8 (3 Votes)

Best Book of the Week Poll – May 10

Whew! Was Free Comic Book Day a blast, or what?! It was actually my first one ever and I cannot wait for next year’s. On that note, Free Comic Book Day may be over,  but the fun never ends here at Cosmic Comix. We still have the Best Book Poll to look forward to every week! That being said, there’s definitely been some heavy competition between the books in last week’s poll. For starters, it’s a two-way tie between Polarity #2 and Detective Comics #20 for the title of Best Book of the Week! Ten Grand #1 comes in strong with only one vote behind, earning it second place. Finally, we have yet ANOTHER tie… a THREE-WAY tie! Just shy of one vote from second place, three books — Hawkeye #10, Incredible Hulk #7, and All New X-Men #11 — all came in third place. If you recall, Rusty has been on one helluva winning streak with these predictions and he’s got 2/3 predictions right for last week. Not too shabby.

Anyway, enough about last week. This week’s poll is a pretty short, straight-forward list. In Rusty’s nominee list, (apart from revealing my identity) he voted Thor: God of Thunder #8 as the Best Book of the Week. With the way things have been going so far, I wouldn’t doubt it if it won Best Book of the Week in the poll. Who knows? Maybe an unpredictable, tie-breaking vote will finally end his reigning predictions. There’s only one way to find out!

What was the Best Book of the Week?

  • Thor God of Thunder #8 (15 Votes)
  • Avengers #11 (5 Votes)
  • Walking Dead #110 (3 Votes)
  • Suicide Squad #20 (3 Votes)
  • This list seems a little short and I know why. My favorite isn't on it! (3 Votes)
  • Batman and Red Hood #20 (3 Votes)
  • Avengers Arena #9 (2 Votes)
  • Batman #20 (2 Votes)
  • Green Lantern Corps #20 (2 Votes)

Best Book of the Week Poll – May 3

With Free Comic Book Day tantalizingly close (ONE MORE DAY), I hope everyone is getting sufficiently hyped for it. But first things first! And that means last week’s poll, for which there was a solid number of votes overall. A lot of opinions being expressed out there. In the end a huge majority of you guys voted for Guardians of the Galaxy#2, just as Rusty predicted. He’s been pretty spot on with these predictions in the past couple of weeks. Coming in second place was Injustice: Gods Among Us #4, with just one vote more than Jupiter’s Legacy #1, which came in third. The only real surprise, I suppose, was Injustice… but who am I to question the excellent taste of the Cosmic Comix Collective!

With that said, this week’s poll is up and ready for your votes. In Rusty’s nominee list, he named his favorites in 1-2-3 order: Detective Comics #20, Polarity #2 and Superior Spider-Man #9. Is that how it will play with your votes? Or will Hawkeye defy his expectations and take down yet another poll victory? He hated it, but I happened to like it! Where we did agree, though, was just about everything else. Fairest… Ten Grand… Polarity…. ALL GOOD. But enough about our squabbles!

What was the Best Book of the Week?

  • Polarity #2 (6 Votes)
  • Detective Comics #20 (6 Votes)
  • Ten Grand #1 (5 Votes)
  • Hawkeye #10 (4 Votes)
  • Incredible Hulk #7 (4 Votes)

  • World’s Finest #12 (1 Votes)
  • Abe Sapien: Dark and Terrible #2 (1 Votes)

Best Book of the Week Poll – April 26

What an incredibly tight race last week’s poll was! But in the end there had to be a winner, and the public* has voted Todd the Ugliest Kid On Earth #4 as the best book of the week! Just one measly vote behind, Age of Ultron #6 and Chew #33 take the title as the second best books of the week. Then another two books come in third place to share the title as the third best books of the week: Superior Spider-Man #8 and Cable and X-Force #7! This goes to show how important you guys’ individual votes really are.

Moving on to this week’s poll, we have TONS of your favorite books on this list. It’ll be hard to vote for just one book when there are 25 great options to choose from. Rusty has strong hopes for Guardians of the Galaxy #2, as you saw in his nominee’s list. And then there are the five Avengers books we’ve been talking about all week, East of West #2, Jupiter’s Legacy, Rachel Rising and more! Some major quality showing up this week. So vote!

Best Book of the Week Poll – April 19

Looks like Rusty’s prediction was SPOT ON in last week’s poll! Indeed Hawkeye #9 reigned supreme over all the other books as the best book of the week. Just two votes behind comes Saga #12 in second place. Finally, just down by four votes, Green Lantern Corps #19 came in third place. Many, many wonderful titles were up for voting, but in the end you guys voted for these three books as the top contender.

This week, we have even more fan favorites! Rusty’s nominees list was a bit on the short and sweet side with only four books… though he had many good things to say about those four books. We also switched it up a bit by adding Adventure Time #15 and the last issue of Todd the Ugliest Kid on Earth! Very high hopes for all of these books, but only one victor will prevail. Who will you choose? Let us know and VOTE!

Best Book of the Week Poll – April 12

The weather has been SUPERB this week! Hope you haven’t put down those books to play outside because there’s reading and voting to be done! Last week’s poll was a tight race. We nominated and you guys voted. There were high hopes for Thanos #1, but alas! The winning title goes to Green Arrow #19 as the best book of the week! Superior Spider-Man #7 won second place with being just a mere 2 votes behind. Coming in third place, a tie between Indestructible Hulk #6 and Uber #0. Claps all around!

As far as the week’s poll goes, Rusty seemed nearly speechless in his nominee page because the books were just THAT good. Here, we’ve got great books like GI Joe Cobra Files #1, Saga #12, and Thor God of Thunder #7 which Rusty couldn’t be anymore happier about. In the end, he predicted Hawkeye #9 as the winner. We also included Age of Ultron #5 which had high votes in the past but never won. Will issue #5 be the winning book? Or did Rusty predict right with Hawkeye? There’s only one way to find out! Once again, it’s up to you guys to vote for your favorite book SO VOTE!

Best Book of the Week Poll – April 4

Cosmic Madness has come to an end… but fortunately the Best Book of the Week Poll will always be there when you have that aching feeling to vote for your faves. This past week was much more competitive than the previous week’s poll. The majority of you guys voted for Rachel Rising #15! It was a close call between Rachel Rising #15 and Uncanny Avengers #15, but in the end Rachel took the lead. Not too far behind, just shy of one vote, I Vampire came in third place. Not too shabby, if I don’t say so myself. We (the editorial "we") voted for Batman: The Dark Knight #18, but we congratulate Rachel Rising.

Moving on to this week, we have a lot of debut issues like Uber #0, Polarity #1, Dark Tower: Gunslinger – Evil Ground #1, and most importantly we have Jason Aaron’s Thanos Rising #1, the villain of the new Avengers movie up for voting. Rusty calls this issue easily the biggest release of the week. Will Thanos DOMINATE the week’s poll or will he be defeated by Detective Comics #18, the Special 80-Page Spectacular issue? Who Knows? Maybe Alan Moore’s Fashion Beast #8 will take the poll by storm. It’s up to you guys, so without further ado, here is this week’s poll. (And just for good old time’s sake, let’s hear it one last time) Vote. It. Up!

What was the best book of the week?

Best Book of the Week Poll – March 29

Cosmic Madness may have been keeping the highest profile this week, but all the while Saga #11 was coasting to one of the most lopsided victories in Best Book of the Week Poll history! Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples’ epic space opera scored FOUR TIMES as many votes as its nearest competitors — Justice League #18, Justice League of America #2 and Superior Spider-Man #6, which ended up in a three-way tie for second. Here’s hoping this week’s race is a little more competitive!

Speaking of this week, Rusty had plenty to say about the titles on offer. Ultimately, he went with Batman Incorporated #9, which fit right into Grant Morrison’s ongoing story and made a fitting tribute to young Damian Wayne. As for me, I really enjoyed both Batman: The Dark Knight #18 and Garth Ennis’ Red Team #2, which he also nominated. And I would even add Superior Spider-Man #6AU to the list of nominees; I feel its absence from his list was a serious mistake and believe you me I let him know about it! But enough about our squabbles…

What was the best book of the week?

  • Rachel Rising #15 (6 Votes)
  • Uncanny Avengers #5 (4 Votes)
  • I Vampire #18 (3 Votes)
  • YAWN! These picks are putting me to sleep! (2 Votes)

Best Book of the Week Poll – March 22

Wow, looks like last week’s poll ended in a tie! Uncanny X-Men #3 and Ultimate Comics X-Men #24 both ended up with the same number of votes! The former isn’t surprising at all, that book was excellent. The latter is a little surprising, even if it is a solid and well-done book. Just not what I expected to get votes! Ties do happen from time to time and, as you know, it’s up to me break that tie. So I’m going with Uncanny X-Men #3! I called it early on as my favorite book of the week and I ain’t backing off now. Also in the running were Batman #18 and Age of Ultron #2.

As for this week, the indies had a strong week with Chew #32, Conan the Barbarian #14 and Saga #11 all earning praise from Rusty (and me, too). He ultimately went with Saga and it’s tough to disagree; that book is so, so good. The House of Ideas also had a pretty good week, though, with Superior Spider-Man #6, the Avengers books and All New X-Men all holding their own. But what about you?

What was the best book of the week?

  • Saga #11 (12 Votes)

Best Book of the Week Poll – March 14

Last week’s poll featured a very tight race, but in the end we did have a winner: All New X-Men #8! Brian Michael Bendis’ series about the original X-men coming into the present has been a little uneven, but this issue really was superb. Close behind were the equally excellent Superior Spider-Man #5 and Age of Ultron #1, which were tied for second place, just one vote behind All New X-Men! Marvel definitely pulled off a mighty sweep.

Not sure if that’s going to hold this week, as we saw a trio of powerful Bat-books from DC — Batman #18, Batman and Robin #18 and Batgirl #18. Rusty also had some other relatively predictable nominees, including Walking Dead #108, Thor: God of Thunder #6 and Before Watchmen: Ozymandias #6 (of 6). (In this case, predictable is not an insult… it’s just that these books are consistently excellent!) Anyway, enough of my jabberjaw…

What was the best book of the week?

  • Uncanny X-Men #3 (7 Votes)
  • Ultimate Comics X-Men #24 (7 Votes)
  • Batman #18 (6 Votes)
  • Age of Ultron #2 (5 Votes)

Best Book of the Week Poll – March 8

Looking at last week’s poll, I can only conclude that you people are a morbid bunch! Voting Batman Incorporated #8 to victory on the strength of Damian Wayne’s death. Or… I guess maybe on the strength of years and years of Grant Morrison storytelling. Whatevs. But it did beat out Hawkeye #8, which is highly impressive given that title’s track record in the poll.

As for this week, the Age of Ultron began! It was an interesting read and we’re curious to see how many votes it gets. I myself loved Superior Spider-Man #5 while Rusty went with All New X-Men #8 as his Best Book of the Week. Other standouts included Detective Comics #18, which featured a prominent R for Requiem on the cover; Snapshot #2 (of 4), which continued the Comic Book Guy’s adventures in crime; and Green Arrow #18, which established itself as a title to be reckoned with.

What was the best book of the week?

  • All New X-Men #8 (9 Votes)
  • Age of Ultron #1 (8 Votes)

Best Book of the Week Poll – March 1

As much as we tried to score a victory for Thor: God of Thunder #5, alas it did not take down a victory in last week’s poll. That honor went to Saga #10! I guess you folks like stories about space babies more than you do stories about god butchers! But aside from those two titles, the voting was pretty evenly spread around.

As for this week, Matt Fraction and David Aja’s Hawkeye series once again took top honors in Rusty’s column. Also given praise were Guardians of the Galaxy #0.1, an excellent start to Brian Michael Bendis’ space adventure; Legend of Luther Strode #3, featuring more punches and more pain; and a double dose of Uncanny: Avengers #4 and X-Men #2! What DIDN’T make the list of nominees was my own pick for best book: Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan #4! A fine, philosophical ride it was.

What was the best book of the week?

  • Hawkeye #8 (8 Votes)
  • Uncanny Avengers #4 (4 Votes)

Best Book of the Week Poll – February 21

The week before may have been somewhat surprising, but last week’s poll results were not surprising in the least. Batman #17 for the win! And a massive win it was. The end of Death of the Family was good enough to propel Batsy to a big margin of victory over the likes of Star Wars #2, Fatale #12, Uncanny X-Men #1… even Walking Dead! Like I said, though, no surprise. It could well go on to be the Best Book of the Month.

As for this week, we’ve got over 25 books for you to choose from, marking one of our largest polls to date. So get in there and vote for your favorite! Do you agree with Rusty (and me) that Thor: God of Thunder #5 was the best? Or did you like Saga #10? Or Conan the Barbarian #13? Or Avengers or GI Joe or Daredevil or Superior Spider-Man or…

Best Book of the Week Poll – February 15

In a somewhat surprising turn of events, and contrary to what both Andy AND Chris would have predicted, Image Comics’ Snapshot #1 (of 4) took down the victory in last week’s poll! Garth Ennis’ Red Team #1 came in second place, which means that if not for Detective Comics #17 the Big Two would have been shut out of the podium!

As for this week, Rusty was calling it a two-book week, with Walking Dead #107 and Batman #17 heads above all other comics. The previous issues of both titles featured cliffhangers and we readers were not disappointed with how they turned out! I myself would have also added Uncanny X-Men #1 and Fatale #12 to the official list of nominees. They were both excellent for totally different reasons. But enough about us! What about you?

What was the best book of the week?

  • Batman #17 (11 Votes)
  • Star Wars #2 (6 Votes)
  • Fatale #12 (4 Votes)
  • Secret Avengers #1 (3 Votes)
  • Uncanny X-Men #1 (3 Votes)
  • Walking Dead #107 (2 Votes)

Best Book of the Week Poll – February 8

Even with much chatter about how good Superior Spider-Man #2 was (as compared to the first issue), it still didn’t come close to winning the poll last week. That honor went to Before Watchmen: Ozymandias #5 (of 6)! Not far behind were Avengers #4 and I Vampire #16, both of which excellent. Say… you guys and gals have pretty good taste!

As for this week, even though Rusty only had five official nominees, we were still able to put together a colossal line-up of choices for you. Starting with his picks — which included the outstanding Detective Comics #17, the surprising Legends of the Dark Knight #5, and the somewhat controversial (at least around here) Snapshot #1. But we’ve also thrown in both Avengers books, Superior Spider-Man, Rachel Rising and much more! Get to votin’! And if you haven’t read your books yet… vote anyway!

What was the best book of the week?

  • Snapshot #1 (8 Votes)
  • Garth Ennis Red Team #1 (6 Votes)

  • Star Wars: Dark Times — Fire Carrier #1 (1 Votes)

Best Book of the Week Poll – February 1

Though there was definitely some concern for DC Comics in the poll comments last week, and in particular for Death of the Family, Nightwing #16 still finished at the very top. But it wasn’t by itself! Sharing the top of the poll was Chew #31! And, since that also happened to be my favorite book, I am going to play the role of tie breaker and give the nod to Chew! It was the start of a new day in the series and a great time to check it out if you haven’t already.

This week has already been called out by many as being a little on the lighter side — and in fact Rusty only had six nominees — but there were still some excellent books. Hawkeye #7 followed events on the ground during Superstorm Sandy, while Before Watchmen: Ozymandias #5 continued its run as one of the best (if not the best) Before Watchmen titles. Meanwhile, did Superior Spider-Man #2 squash all the haters?? It may have, my friends. We’ll just have to see what ace reviewer Shawn Douglas says.

What was the best book of the week?

  • Before Watchmen: Ozymandias #5 (6 Votes)
  • Avengers #4 (5 Votes)
  • I Vampire #16 (4 Votes)
  • Invincible #100 (3 Votes)
  • Superior Spider-Man #2 (3 Votes)
  • Batman and Robin Annual #1 (3 Votes)
  • You guys really know your stuff! But my favorite is missing, so you don't know everything! (2 Votes)
  • Angel & Faith #18 (1 Votes)
  • Green Lantern Corps Annual #1 (1 Votes)
  • Batman Incorporated #7 (1 Votes)
  • X-Men Legacy #5 (0 Votes)
  • Teen Titans #16 (0 Votes)

Best Book of the Week Poll – January 25

Last week’s poll turned out to be a VERY close race between Saga #9 and Batman #16, with only one vote separating them! I actually thought it would be a three-horse race, with Conan the Barbarian #12 in there, too, but alas… it was not to be. Of course, there had to be a winner, and that winner was… Saga #9! No surprise there, it was outstanding.

As for this week, we got a couple more new Marvel NOW! series — Young Avengers #1 and Uncanny X-Force #1 — along with some Green Lantern action and of course the mighty Chew. Which happened to be both me and Rusty’s pick for Best Book of the Week. As for you…

Best Book of the Week Poll – January 18

In somewhat of a surprise turn of events, Star Wars #1 took down the victory in last week’s poll! It was a week of very heavy voter turnout, mostly concentrated at the top with Star Wars, Sweet Tooth #40 (the series finale), Detective Comics #16 and Thor: God of Thunder #4, all of which would have been worthy winners. But something had to win! And that something was Star Wars. (More copies coming in next Wednesday!)

As for this week, Rusty called it a lighter week and only had six nominees, which included my own three favorites of Batman #16, Saga #9 and Conan the Barbarian #12. But there were many other worthy books, as well, including YOUR favorite! Which was…

Best Book of the Week Poll – January 11

For the first time in I can’t remember how long, last week’s poll ended in a tie! All New X-Men #5 and Punk Rock Jesus #6 both came out on top in a week with heavy voting. Interesting because I don’t know that I could think of two more diametrically opposed titles, and not just because one is black-and-white and the other is color! But in the end there does have to be a winner, and I, as Chairman of the Committee to Decide Poll Winners, have decided that the victory belongs to… Punk Rock Jesus #6!

As for this week, there were some great books, even if Rusty only has six official nominees. Sweet Tooth #40 was his pick for a winner, and it was a fine, fine book. My pick, on the other hand, has to be Thor: God of Thunder #4, which I’m going with for sheer scale. But there were plenty more, including Detective Comics #16, Superior Spider-Man #1, Legend of Luther Strode #2 and more! So…
