Best Book of the Week Poll – March 1

As much as we tried to score a victory for Thor: God of Thunder #5, alas it did not take down a victory in last week’s poll. That honor went to Saga #10! I guess you folks like stories about space babies more than you do stories about god butchers! But aside from those two titles, the voting was pretty evenly spread around.

As for this week, Matt Fraction and David Aja’s Hawkeye series once again took top honors in Rusty’s column. Also given praise were Guardians of the Galaxy #0.1, an excellent start to Brian Michael Bendis’ space adventure; Legend of Luther Strode #3, featuring more punches and more pain; and a double dose of Uncanny: Avengers #4 and X-Men #2! What DIDN’T make the list of nominees was my own pick for best book: Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan #4! A fine, philosophical ride it was.

What was the best book of the week?

  • Batman Incorporated #8 (9 Votes)
  • Hawkeye #8 (8 Votes)
  • Uncanny Avengers #4 (4 Votes)
  • Every single one of these is tempting… but my heart belongs to another! (2 Votes)
  • Legend of Luther Strode #3 (2 Votes)
  • Gaurdians of the Galaxy #0.1 (2 Votes)
  • Uncanny X-Force #2 (1 Votes)
  • Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan #4 (1 Votes)
  • Young Avengers #2 (1 Votes)
  • Avengers Arena #5 (1 Votes)
  • Red Lanterns #17 (1 Votes)
  • Uncanny X-Men #2 (0 Votes)
  • Rocketeer: Hollywood Horror #1 (0 Votes)
  • Massive #9 (0 Votes)
  • I Vampire #17 (0 Votes)
  • Doctor Who Vol. 3 #6 (0 Votes)
  • Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time #2 (0 Votes)
  • Batman: The Dark Knight #17 (0 Votes)
  • Angel & Faith #19 (0 Votes)

Total Voters: 32

Easy vote, Batman Inc #8 even without reading everything else. Whether Damian stays dead or not this was a great story and it is shame Damian is gone as he was a great addition to the Batman mythology. In many ways the new DCU has taken Batman backwards after Morrison actually moved the franchise forward. Hard to believe it has been seven years and hate to see it end. The Morrison era will be tied with the O’Neil / Adams era for best Batman stuff ever.

Are you waiting for a copy or referring to the next issue? I know you’ve run hot/cold on the series.

A glitch in the system – pending getting the current issue.

I do run hot and cold on the book, generally I like it (Sandy issue aside) and I think Fraction is a good enough of a writer now (pun intended) to stop with the time jump crap. Right now Fraction’s FF is my favorite book by him, it is quirky, odd and a lot of fun. It is barely a super hero comic, hell the last issue could have been entitled “Romance FF Style”. Plus the “AR” in this book have been Fraction actually talking about the book and one AR was an actual funny bit. Fraction is one of the few writers who seems to enjoy putting together AR that is worth watching, so much of it is still pure filler BS.
