News Roundup – October 6, 2012

Baltimore OriolesThe biggest news coming out of the last week was without a doubt seeing a true Super Team rise and defeat a powerful opponent. Together they are more heroic than the Avengers and the Justice League. I am of course speaking of the Baltimore Orioles. Soon they will face the menace of the villainous New York Yankees, and battle for the soul of this guy right here. Orioles Magic: way better than anything Doctor Strange or John Constantine could come up with! FEAR THE BIRD!

Jonathan Hickman revealed that his Avengers book will end up with a cast of twenty-four characters, and twelve of them will be female or minority characters. His New Avengers book will be made up of the Illuminati introduced during Bendis’ run.

Scott Lobdell stated recently there are plans for a second Teen Titans book spinning out of the first series following issue #25, and would have Raven taking over as leader.

One year after the DC52 relaunch, DC Comics took the top spot in September in both unit shares and dollar amount. Looks like their Zero Issues were a success! I have mixed feelings about this. Marvel did have the top comic with Avengers Vs X-Men #11, but that’s about it.

SuperiorMarvel’s latest teaser for Marvel Now comes with the tease word Superior. And it has Dan Slott, Humberto Ramos, Ryan Stegman, and Giuseppe Camuncoli – the Amazing Spider-Man team – attached to it. I think it is safe to say we are getting a Spider-Man relaunch.

One interesting fact coming out of the MorrisonCon was that Jim Lee still hopes to do All Star Batman and Robin Volume 2. In all of this time Frank Miller has actually written two of the new issues! (Um, what?) Also some other tidbits:

-There is a third volume of Seaguy on the way.

-Morrison hates the “Red” concept attached to Animal Man now.

-Dr. Hurt will return to Morrison’s Batman comics.

-JH Williams III will be done illustrating Batwoman soon. (He’s probably starting Sandman and then maybe something else?) He will remain on the book as a writer. I know he could not stay on there forever, but his art will be missed on the title.

Marvel is releasing a direct-to-video computer animated film in April called Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United. The film will team Hulk and Tony Stark against the classic Hulk villain Zzzax. Heroes star Adrian Pasdar will voice Tony Stark and Fred Tatasciore will voice the Hulk.

Looks like Marvel has expanded their search for Sharon Carter for Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. Both A Game of Thrones actress Emelia Clarke, and Community star Alison Brie are two of the names being considered.
