Highlights for Wednesday, October 31: Marvel Comics

Similar to DC, Marvel likewise has a lighter week lined up for the fifth week of the month. But of course there is still plenty to choose from, starting with Wolverine and the X-Men! It’s the beginning of the second year for what has quickly become one of the most reliably fun X-books coming out today. This is a great time to hop on board, if you haven’t already, for the stories that come out of the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning!

WOLVERINE AND X-MEN #19

• The second year of the most talked-about new X-Book starts here!
• One of the students is on death’s door and the faculty must 1) try to keep them alive and 2) find who did it!
• With one of the teachers on the outs, a new one must be hired. Who will it be?

You’ll also see a couple "final" issues this week, most notably X-Men Legacy #275. In this issue, Rogue must come to grips with the decision she made with Magneto. And you probably noticed that I put "final" in quotes just then, but only because X-Men Legacy kicks off a brand new series with a new #1 issue in a few weeks. So… a sad day for X-Men Legacy, one of our favorites, but it also gives us something to look forward to with a fresh beginning.

And if you thought DC had the market cornered on Annuals, THINK AGAIN. Look out for Avenging Spider-Man Annual #1! This one has your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man teaming up (sort of) with the one and only Thing! And I have to say this one features a great, great cover…

There’s also a double shot of Ultimate books this week with Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #16.1 and Ultimate Comics X-Men #18. In the former, the Daily Bugle is on the hunt to find out everything they can about the new Spider-Man. What will they discover?? While in the latter, Kitty struggles to control the Mutant Resistance Army. It’s the conclusion to United We Stand!

Finally, I’ve been giving lots of love to AVX: Consequences… and darned if I’m not going to keep on keepin’ on! The fourth issue comes out this week and I’ve heard it involves Iron Man confronting Cyclops… which is the best we have to go on because the solicitation sure as heck doesn’t tell us anything! All I know is… CYCLOPS WAS RIGHT!
