You might remember that in the most recent Looking Forward column we did for DC Comics, the subject was events! And lots of ‘em! Well, two of those events kick off this Wednesday, starting with the Green Lantern event Rise of the Third Army! As Geoff Johns said, "The Guardians’ Third Army rises to replace the Green Lantern Corps – but how is horrifying and why will change the Guardians and their ancient mission forever. As we discover what the Third Army actually means, our strongest Lanterns are targeted for absolute destruction." It starts in this week’s Green Lantern #13!
GREEN LANTERN #13

- "Rise of the Third Army"!
- Baz, Earth’s NEW Green Lantern, battles The Justice League!
- Meanwhile, The Guardians begin their final step in the destruction of the Lanterns by releasing the first of the Third Army soldiers!
Next, be sure to check out Legends of the Dark Knight #1. It’s the first issue in a series collecting original, non-continuity short stories featuring Batman as written and illustrated by some of comics’ finest talents! Look for Damon Lindelof, Jeff Lemire, J.G. Jones, and many others! Sounds like some solid Elseworlds action in the hands of very capable creators.
Also look for the next issue in one of the most popular Before Watchmen series: Before Watchmen Rorschach #2! It’s grim and gritty crimefighting as only Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo can do it.
It’s hard not to be stoked for a new year of Grant Morrison style Superman, which kicks off in Action Comics #13! This issue not only promises art by the excellent Travel Foreman (Animal Man), but also a major change in the Action Comics series… which somehow involves both the Phantom Zone AND the Phantom Stranger!
Finally, I mentioned above that two events kick off today. The first was Rise of the Third Army, and the second is… Rotworld! The Animal Man/Swamp Thing crossover event! And both of those titles come out today. One thing you’ll notice is that they’re BOTH part ones; Animal Man is part one of Rotworld: The Red Kingdom while Swamp Thing is part one of Rotworld: The Green Kingdom.
SWAMP THING #13

"ROTWORLD: THE GREEN KINGDOM" begins! Swamp Thing learns the truth of how the Earth fell to the Rot as seen in this month’s issues of ANIMAL MAN and FRANKENSTEIN: AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E. Guest-starring Poison Ivy, Deadman and The Parliament of Trees!
