We’ll kick off the highlights reel this week, as we usually do, with the Everything Else department, which in our minds includes the DC Comics imprint Vertigo! Fables is one of our favorite series of all-time and, frankly, it boggles our mind that it’s remained so good for so long. That said, this issue marks a great time to hop on if you haven’t already. A major story arc recently came to an end and this appears to be a tweener issue. Plus, that’s a really cool cover.
FABLES #122
DC COMICS/VERTIGO
Written by Bill Willingham
Art by Gene Ha, Shawn McManus
How does fate work in the Fables fictional universe? Find out in this tale full of deadly chases, betrayals, sword fights and skulduggery, as superstar guest-artist Gene Ha guides us through "The Destiny Game." Also: Bufkin and his "girlfriend" sidekick continue their Ozian adventures in the backup feature painted by Shawn McManus.
And speaking of good jumping-on points, Adventure Time #9 offers just such a thing! Join Jake the Dog and Finn the Human as they try to right the wrongs of a Jake-caused time paradox! If you haven’t checked out the comic book adaptation of the hit Cartoon Network show, there’s no better time to jump into the all-ages sensation!
Moving over to Dark Horse, there’s Ghost #1! We saw a zero issue a little while back, but now the series kicks off for real. Picking up right where Ghost #0 left off, this issue continues Kelly Sue DeConnick and Phil Noto’s reimagining of Dark Horse’s greatest heroine!
Meanwhile, Image brings Invincible #96 to the table! The Flaxan invasion comes to a horrible, violent end, and Robot and Monster Girl will never be the same again. The new Invincible has gotten a taste for what his new role will require. But meanwhile, back at home, Mark Grayson is growing stronger… This is one of Chris’ favorites and he made me to mention it!
And we’ll finish up with a little Cobra action! In the last issue, if you’ll recall, Major Bludd was sitting in jail. But final page saw him about to get busted out… by what appears to be the Oktober Guard!
COBRA #18
IDW PUBLISHING
Written by Mike Costa
Art by Antonio Fuso
OKTOBER IS COMING! Who are the OKTOBER GUARD? The deadliest group of elite killers and assassins ever faced by G.I. JOE or COBRA! FLINT’s covert group is the only thing standing between the Oktober Guard and victory-but there’s going to be a high price to pay.
