Best Covers of the Day – Wednesday, October 3

Fairest #8Welcome to October! It’s an all new month with all new comics and I’m feeling like an all new man. Renewed… reinvigorated… resplendent with the bounty of the autumn harvest! And so on. I’ve got some great covers for you today and, as always, just click on any of them for a closer look. Which is something I highly recommend because even though most of my body may be renewed, as far as my eyesight goes, I’m basically Mr. Magoo.

FAIREST #8

Cover by Adam Hughes

I guess we have to overlook the tacky and somewhat distracting ad for CW’s Arrow that’s running across all the DC Comics titles this week. Hmph. But seriously, if that’s the first thing you noticed about this cover then you, too, need to have your eyes checked, sir (or madam)! That is the lovely Rapunzel! And her hair! Dirty jokes abound, but I will take the high road. The agonizingly silent high road.

By the by, Fairest has really set itself up to take the top spot in this column every single month. Just have an accomplished artist paint a picture of a pretty girl and you’re a lock! REAL TALK.

Boys #71THE BOYS #71

Cover by Darick Robertson

I picked this cover not so much for what it is — and what it is, is a very peaceful and contented looking Wee Hughie — but for how it contrasts to the first page of the book! Which I will put right here.

I don’t think those two images could be any further from each other! Skyscraper to the leg! At this point [SPOILER WARNING] Hughie and Butcher were the only two Boys still left alive, and now it’s not looking so good for the former! So maybe this is the picture on the New Arrivals Bulletin Board in Heaven. * tear *

Uncanny X-Force #32UNCANNY X-FORCE #32

Cover by Jerome Opena and Dean White

You all know I like a good punch to the face. It’s one of my favorite things to see on a comic book cover and, like an Adam Hughes-y pretty girl, it almost always assures you of a place in the Best Covers column. That said, you can file this cover under Careful What You Wish For.

Good grief! I mean, I’m not sure that what’s happening here even is/was a punch to the face, but punches to the face certainly happened sometime in the recent past! Look how much debris there is in the air! Blood… clothes… SPLATTERING. There’s so much stuff flying around, I feel like if I was a spectator it’d be like attending a Gallagher show.

Non-Humans #1NON-HUMANS #1

Cover by Whilce Portacio

I’m honestly not sure what I can say about this cover. Or really even what I can ascertain about the comic at all! I guess we have to assume that the little Chucky-looking girl with blue hair, wires coming out of her head, a hand missing, and said hand also having Wolverine claws… is a Non-Human? I know, I know. It’s a stretch. But that’s why they pay me the big bucks, because I’m a risk taker!

But I’d be willing to take it a step further and say that the dude holding the girl’s severed hand is ALSO a Non-Human. Have you ever seen an actual human in real life with such a dopey look on his face? I almost don’t blame the little blue-haired girl for wanting to take him out!
