News Roundup -September 1, 2012

JLAA new Justice League of America comic has been announced with David Finch as the artist. Geoff Johns is writing the series that will feature Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, Hawkman, Catwoman, Steve Trevor, Stargirl, the new Green Lantern Bazz, Katana, and Vibe. I am not sure about this one, but I am glad to see Stargirl back. Look for it in early 2013.

Bleeding Cool is reporting that Grant Morrison has a Wonder Woman comic coming out in 2013 called Wonder Woman Year One and that he will be writing it for artist Yanick Paquette.

Artist Chris Bachalo is done with Wolverine and the X-Men as of issue #16. The artist is going to another title, but is not telling anyone what it is just yet. I love his art and cannot wait to see where he lands.

There is a rumor flying around that Scott Snyder and Jim Lee are launching a new Superman series called Man of Steel! If this is true it is expected to be part of the DC52 Wave Five, which would be around May/June 2013. I hope this is true. I cannot stand the Superman books right now.

Bill Sienkiewicz is taking over the inking chores on Before Watchmen: Nite Owl, replacing Joe Kubert who recently passed away. As much as I am not a fan of this endeavor, I do not think DC could have picked a better fill-in given Mr. Kubert’s passing.

ABC has greenlit the pilot for the SHIELD TV series that Joss Whedon is co-writing and helping to develop. The show will stand on apart from the Avengers movie for the most part, but may have teases and ties peppered throughout. No news on characters. More as it develops.

Michael Keaton has been cast as the villain in the reboot of Robocop. I still wish WB had gotten Keaton to voice Batman in The Dark Knight returns animated film.

Justice League is supposed to be the film that introduces the new Batman to the movie going audience. Justice League is tentatively slated for 2015 with a reboot of the Batman franchise set for 2016. I guess they better nail down a director for JL.

Speaking of which the new rumors indicate that Warner Bros is hoping to convince The Wachowskis to direct their Justice League movie. Their track record with The Matrix and the buzz on the upcoming Cloud Atlas has put them on the studios’ radar.
