Highlights for Wednesday, September 19: Marvel Comics

Spider-Men #5It’s a slightly smaller week for Marvel Comics this week… which I guess isn’t all that surprising because it felt like last week was an absolute monster. Anyway, we’ll give the lead-off spot to Brian Michael Bendis’ Spider-Men #5 (of 5)! It’s the last issue in the popular Ultimate Universe / Marvel Universe crossover book, following up a fourth issue that turned out to be one of the absolute best books of the month last month.

The shocking conclusion! How will the amazing Spider-Man get back to his own reality? What will both Spider-Men do now that they know they’re not alone in the universe? Will Peter Parker give Miles Morales his blessing?

We’ve also really been enjoying X-Factor recently and the "Breaking Points" storyline, so it’s cool to see X-Factor #244 in the line-up! Devastated by the recent tragedies befalling the team, one member makes a terrible sacrifice in hopes of making things right.

And speaking of good storylines, I’ve gotten a bit of grief recently from parties who shall remain nameless (but whose initials are Shawn Douglas) for not giving the "Everything Burns" crossover its due and proper. This week sees part four of the six-part story in Mighty Thor #20! Look for parts five and six in Mighty Thor #21 and 22 and the aftermath in Journey into Mystery #645.

Daredevil #18Finally, as I mentioned earlier in the week, Mark Waid and Paolo Rivera’s Daredevil totally cleaned up at the Harvey Awards this year (held during the Baltimore Comic-Con). The series picked up awards for Best New Series, Best Continuing or Limited Series, Best Writer and Best Inker (Joe Rivera)! And this week sees the start of a new story in Daredevil #18. Check it out if you haven’t already!

One of Daredevil’s biggest challenges begins with the debut of a new menace in New York – the killer called Coyote! And just how sane IS Matt Murdock?
