Best Book of the Week Poll – September 21

As you might recall, last week was an absolute MONSTER of a week. Rusty came through with a whopping 20 nominees! But the cream rose to the top of the Best Book Poll and we did have a winner: Punk Rock Jesus #3! And it was a solid victory, too, with more than twice as many votes as its nearest competitor, Avengers vs. X-Men #11. Well deserved, it’s been an excellent series so far.

Not nearly as many nominees this week, but the quality was definitely still there. From the outstanding Fables #121, which wrapped up an epic Cubs in Toyland story arc; to a fantastic Shazam origin story in Justice League #0; to the final issue of the surprisingly good Spider-Men mini-series; and of course… Walking Dead. And I added a few of my own to the poll list, including a new Lobster Johnson one-shot, Ghost #0, and Mighty Thor #20!

  1. Jim says:

I’m still reading, but I will say this much, Sword of Sorcery #0 was actually a good read. I was shocked as I picked it up on a lark and both the Gemworld and surprise addition of a Beowulf back up series were well done. Not quite best of the week, but good enough to go on my list.

  2. Shawn says:

I too liked Sword and Sorcery #0. Very unexpected.

  3. Jim says:

I would not have nominated it for best book of the week but Godzilla Half Century War by James Stokoe is the best book you are not reading – stealing from David Lee – this mini-series is as good as the John Layman one and maybe even better. It is all out monster madness, with a good story being told at the same time. It is only mini-series of five issues so go buy it. A crime it is not on the nominee list.

  4. Andy King says:

I swear I didn’t vote for JB twice! Good to see another fan out there.

  5. Dan says:

I’m going with Avengers Academy #37. The “Final Exam” arc was well done, giving the characters some action, making some chioces, and dealing with the consequences. And for once, something to talk about other than their orientations!
