Best Book of the Week Poll – September 14

Lots of discussion about last week’s books in the poll (and the nominees post), particularly with regard to Hawkeye #2 and Green Lantern #0, but in the end there had to be a poll winner. And that winner was… Hawkeye #2! Just about everyone agreed it was far better than the first issue and set the tone for what we hope will be many good issues to come from writer Matt Fraction and artist David Aja.

As for this week, Rusty laid down quite the gauntlet with no fewer than 20 nominees for you to choose from, including some perennial power hitters like Chew, American Vampire and Wolverine and the X-Men, along with some of the new powers like Punk Rock Jesus, Avengers vs. X-Men and Conan! Just a huge week all around. Plus, I added a fwe in there, too, including Green Lantern Corps #0, which took place right here in Charm City Baltimore!

I cannot believe Journey Into Mystery #643 did not make the list! It was amazing!

Also, I did not include it in my Reviews this week, but The Shade #12 proved to be an excellent origin story for the character! Even if fans stayed away from the maxi-series they will want to pick up this issue! It could have been its own Zero Issue!

I agree about JiM and given Rusty’s love for Loki I thought it was a shoo-in. Not as big a fan of the Shade. Liked the series but thought this issue was waaay to wordy with not enough actual story.

  2. Jim says:

I went with Punk Rock Jesus, the book is packed with story and characters and more subtext then five other series combined, yet it is an easy and enjoyable read. One of the best books for 2012.

  3. Andy K says:

PRJ. Although Chew was hilarious and JIM was really good.

I wasn’t let down by any of the books in my box this week. PRJ and AvX were tied for the top spot but I went for the underdog as my overall pick. Uncanny X-Men was very interesting and I enjoyed the dinner party setup. Dark Phoenix is one twisted sister,….er entity, to force Scott to do what he did.

I also enjoyed Suicide Squad #0 and all of the torturous fun Amanda Waller doled out. Loose lips sink ships but Wallers-world you end up dragged down a dark hallway for spilling the beans.

Finally, just because I enjoy it, Jennifer Blood: First Blood, was a good #1 issue popping up among a slew of #0′s. The origins of Jessica Blute and all that she endured before making the change only has me craving more. Not nearly as good as the top picks but a good origin issue none the less. I chuckled when she fell out of the tree, way to kick off vengeance Jenn, way to go!
