Best Book Nominees for Wednesday, September 26

Before Watchmen: Comedian #3Plenty of good comics this week. Not many surprises. Nominees and comments today. Starting with ULTIMATE COMICS ULTIMATES #16 again this week. Yes. Issue #15 came out last week. And President Rogers has already united a fractured United States of America. The war between the Carolinas is over, the dictator of Detroit has been deposed, the Wyoming mystery has been uncovered and the West Coast Nation is seeking reunification! And the most amazing thing is I think it all happened on his inauguration day! President Rogers is the man! Go, Steve, Go!

Nominees!

AMERICAN VAMPIRE #31 – Pearl almost confesses her betrayal to Henry. She wanted to. Events conspired against her. Andy K. will just have to wait another issue or two for any Pearl betrayal resolution. (See the August episode of Cosmic Comix Conversations. – Ed.)  And poor Henry is a goner. I’ve always thought he was a goner. We saw his life "flash" before our eyes this issue. And poor Henry is a goner. See if Pearl breaks his heart before he goes.

ANGEL & FAITH #14 – I will just keep reading it and you still should. The story continues to build, across all titles, and this issues events will lead straight into the Willow mini-series.

BEFORE WATCHMEN OZYMANDIAS #3 (OF 6) – Fighting Comedian. Meeting Dr. Manhattan. Building an Ice Fortress. My favorite Before Watchmen title.

FURY MAX #6 – Kinda forgot about this one. Been awhile since the last issue. Enjoyed. Gonna be awhile until the next issue. Last page said next issue. 12/5/12. Say what? 12/5/12? Yes. 12/5/12. Why that’s an awesome date! That’s the day our Biggest Sale of the Year officially starts! And it will be here before you know it. Heck. We’re not waiting. Already started planning. Got multiple Subscriber Empty Box Bonuses headed your way. Some fantastic end of the year Whiz Bangs. A month long Back Issue Sale in the works. And it all leads up to our Biggest Sale of the Year!

HAPPY #1 (OF 4) – Interesting. Grant Morrison is always interesting. Lots of set up. Seemed everything was geared towards putting him into the hospital and drugging him so that he would see a flying blue miniature unicorn rabbit horse. But I enjoyed the flying blue miniature unicorn rabbit horse and I am sure Grant Morrison will continue to keep it interesting.

INVINCIBLE #95 – I probably liked this more than you. Finally found out what was what between Monster Girl and Robotman. Lotta people are down on Invincible right now. Monster Girl? Robotman? Where’s Invincible? I hear you. He’s still recovering from the Scourge Virus mishap. He will be back! He’s Invincible!Rachel Rising #11

I VAMPIRE #0 – Featured a huge vampire wolf, the origin of Andrew Bennett, and Sonnet 116 by William Shakespeare. The perfect match. I Vampire and Shakespeare!

RACHEL RISING #11 – Was fantastic. Again. The conversation in the snowfall. The swirling snow. The “transformation.” The floating bone graveyard. The bunny eating the fox. Jet taking out the child services employee. Love the “new” direction. Burn the town!

WOLVERINE AND X-MEN #17 – One shot! All about Doop! With art by Mike Allred. Everything you need to know about Doop and more!

X-MEN #36 – It continues to be good and I continue to nominate!

Best Book of the Week? Gonna be a game time decision between Before Watchmen Ozymandias #3 and Rachel Rising #11…

Comments! And it’s all DC zero issues.

BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT #0 – Established who killed Batman’s parents. Joe Chill did it. It was a random mugging, nobody hired him. He just wanted some pearls. No Joker. No secret plot. No nonsense. And while I think that is consistent with the original origin, it doesn’t matter. It’s canon. At least for now.

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #0 – Constantine’s origin. Positive #1. It was time captioned, Some Time Ago. Thank you. Should have done that a year ago. On all the titles. Positive #2. Zatanna is awesome! RAEPPA! Negative #1. That is absolutely not the John Constantine I know. Really made him generic and I don’t know why.

TALON #0 – “The” Talon’s origin. Scott Snyder’s name on the cover almost forces you to read it. Thought it worked. I too am hitting my threshold of Owls and Talons. But this issue really gave me one main Talon to focus on and I can handle that. Just not 100 of them.

TEEN TITANS #0 – Robin’s origin! Or is that Red Robin’s origin? Shawn got a little worked up about this one. I’m a little more worried about Constantine. But definitely an origin change for Tim Drake. I did think it worked in the overall Bat-scheme of things. Not just logistically but how the characters are portrayed. They were able to give all four Robins very distinct personalities and strengths this month and I don’t think there should be any problems separating one Robin from another.

Poll tomorrow! Vote it up! And we will talk about DC’s Zero Month in a little more detail on the podcast this Sunday. Plus allll the books for the month of September!

See ya!
