Looking Forward to October: Everything Else
We’ve seen what Marvel has to offer, we’ve seen DC. But now it’s time to check all those publishers that make up the Everything Else category! What do THEY have to offer for the month of October? Well, there’s plenty of good books out there, but as for this month, the Looking Forward solely consists of two publishers! We’ve got one Dark Horse book and then a whoooooole lot of Image. Which isn’t to say that the other publishers don’t have anything, because they most definitely do. But this is the stuff that caught our eye. And we gotta lead off with Michonne…
WALKING DEAD MICHONNE SPECIAL
IMAGE COMICS
Written by Robert Kirkman
Art by Charlie Adlard, Cliff Rathburn
This special issue of THE WALKING DEAD represents THE WALKING DEAD #19, featuring the first appearance of Michonne as well as the Michonne origin story that first appeared in Playboy Magazine. Just in time for Michonne’s appearance in THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 3!
Though this book does reprint issue #19, what makes it special is the Michonne origin story! Until now, it’s only appeared in Playboy. You might have noticed the photocopy of the story hanging from our bulletin board. This is its first time in comic book form!
BPRD 1948 #1 (OF 5)
DARK HORSE COMICS
Written by Mike Mignola, John Arcudi
Art by Max Fiumara
The Nazi occult bureau threatened to destroy the peace that followed the end of World War II. One year after the war, Professor Bruttenholm, guardian of the child Hellboy, enlisted a special task force to connect the dots between a series of massacres and a mad vampire nobleman. Now the B.P.R.D. launches an investigation of an atomic-fueled space-travel experiment that’s apparently unleashed horrific monsters in the Utah desert.
It’s our one non-Image book! Important because, as Dark Horse will tell you, it’s the end of the Secret Origins trilogy. Spinning out of the pages of Hellboy, BPRD has been one of the most epic tales in comics and we’ve proudly featured it for some time. We now even stock the massive hardcovers that collect three TPB’s worth of material!
CYBER FORCE #1
IMAGE COMICS
Written by Marc Silvestri, Matt Hawkins
Art by Khoi Pham, Sunny Gho
Top Cow’s top-selling series returns in a ground-breaking way! Top Cow celebrates its 20th anniversary with the return of the series that started it all: CYBER FORCE! Top Cow founder MARC SILVESTRI (THE DARKNESS, Incredible Hulk) returns to his first Image series as co-writer, art director and cover artist! Co-writer MATT HAWKINS (THINK TANK, LADY PENDRAGON) and artist KHOI PHAM (Mighty Avengers, Daredevil) join SILVESTRI to bring you a contemporary re-imagining rooted in cutting edge, real world technology.
Carin Taylor, codenamed Velocity, has escaped from the CDI controlled Millennium City and is desperately trying to find the one man she believes can help her prevent the end of the world. When she runs a group of other CDI escapees, will they help her… or turn their backs? Not content in pushing the envelope just in terms of story and art, Top Cow will be the first major US comic publisher to launch one of their biggest properties with top tier creators concurrently for both the traditional print market and exploding worldwide digital market for FREE. That’s right: Thanks to the support of fans through Kickstarter and participating comic shops, you can get the first FIVE issues of CYBER FORCE at no cost.
Can’t add too much to that! All I will say is this: I know fans of the original are gonna be all over this, but if you’ve never seen it before you should definitely check it out. Technology vs. humanity!
BEDLAM #1
IMAGE COMICS
Written by Nick Spencer
Art by Riley Rossmo
Fillmore Press was once Madder Red, a homicidal maniac and criminal overlord who terrorized the town of Bedlam for years. Then he got better. This is what happens next. A double-sized introduction to a blood-soaked cityscape of murder, mayhem, and mystery by NICK SPENCER (MORNING GLORIES, THIEF OF THIEVES) and RILEY ROSSMO (REBEL BLOOD, GREEN WAKE)!
Two of the hottest creators to ever come through Image team up for this one! We’re big fans of both Morning Glories and of course Cowboy Ninja Viking (which Image doesn’t give Rossmo credit for, but it’s the reason we know his name)!
