The last of Andy’s pre-vacation posts. He will be back tomorrow! Tanned, rested, and ready to roll! I must also add that John Layman taking over Detective Comics is a thing of beauty. That book’s gonna rock! – Rusty
Last week, we saw what Marvel had to offer for the month of October, which means that this week we get to see what DC has on tap! We got some Batman, some Superman, some Vertigo and the Rotworld event begins for real! So let’s get right into it!
BATMAN #13
Written by Scott Snyder
Art by Greg Capullo and Jonathan Glapion
The Joker returns in “Death of the Family”! He crippled Batgirl. He killed Robin. What will The Joker do now that he’s returned to Gotham City? What must Batman do to protect his secret identity and that of those who fight alongside him?
When the Joker’s face popped up at the end of Detective Comics #1, people (including us) totally freaked. It was awesome. But ever since then the question has been, "Where is the Joker??" Hopefully that question will be answered in Batman #13! Snyder has said that the Joker is his favorite villain of all time, not just in comics but in everything. He must have voted in Cosmic Madness 2012!
DETECTIVE COMICS #13
Written by John Layman
Art by Jason Fabok
All kneel before Emperor Penguin! There’s a hit out on Bruce Wayne! This new story from writer John Layman (Chew) gueststars Nightwing!
Chew’s own John Layman takes over the writing duties on Detective Comics! Of course, Chew involves one of the most incredible crime solvers in comics history, so it’s perfectly fitting that he take on the World’s Greatest Detective!
LOT 13 #1

Art by Glenn Fabry
A terrifying new horror series from the ghoulish minds of Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) and Glenn Fabry (PREACHER)! A family making a cross-country move makes a horrifying discovery in an old apartment complex. Can they survive the night?
Two high-profile names doing what they do best is what gets us on board for this series. Steve Niles’ 30 Days of Night is a modern classic while Glenn Fabry’s covers for the Preacher series are the stuff of legend.
ACTION COMICS #13

Art by Travel Foreman
You won’t want to miss the return of Krypto! Superman must face down a threat from the Phantom Zone – with the help of The Phantom Stranger! Grant Morrison makes a major change in ACTION COMICS in this special issue featuring art by Travel Foreman!
A major change is promised! Hopefully not too major, though, because Action Comics has been one of the brightest spots in the New 52. Every issue seems to offer something new and different!
TALON #1
Written by Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV
Art by Guillem March
A new series spinning out of “Night of the Owls”! After many years on the run, Calvin Rose returns to Gotham City to investigate the fallout from “Night of the Owls”! Can the Court of Owls finally be defeated? Could Calvin have the one thing he’s been seeking his entire life: his freedom?
We mentioned it last month with all those #0 issues, but Talon — along with Phantom Stranger, Sword of Sorcery and Team 7 — kicks off for real this month!
These next few titles get into a new story set to unfold in the Animal Man/Swamp Thing corner of the DC Universe. We’ve been hoping for these comics to delve more into the business of the Red and the Green and the Black, and it appears as if that’s exactly what’s going to happen here!
ANIMAL MAN #13

Art by Steve Pugh
It’s the story you’ve been waiting for: “ROTWORLD: THE RED KINGDOM”! Part one of a four-part epic in which the Earth has fallen to the Rot! Guest-starring Justice League Dark, Beast Boy and many other heroes and villains from the DC Universe!

“ROTWORLD: THE GREEN KINGDOM” begins! Swamp Thing learns the truth of how the Earth fell to the Rot as seen in this month’s issues of ANIMAL MAN and FRANKENSTEIN: AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E. Guest-starring Poison Ivy, Deadman and The Parliament of Trees!
LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT #1

The first time in print for this digital-first series! Original, non-continuity short stories featuring Batman as written and illustrated by some of comics’ finest talents! Stories in this debut issue include “The Butler Did It,” “All of the Above” and “The Crime Never Committed.”
Sounds like some solid Elseworlds action in the hands of very capable creators. And if the reviews of the digital version are any indication, this book is gonna be great!
NATIONAL COMICS: MADAME X #1
Written by Rob Williams
Art by Trevor Hairsine
The once-famous tarot card reader Madame X now works at a law firm as the resident “psychic” – but can her “powers” help her solve a complicated new case? From the acclaimed team of Rob Williams (Iron Man, Cla$$War) and Trevor Hairsine (Captain America, Cla$$War)!
National Comics: Eternity #1 just came out a couple weeks ago and we totally loved it. We will definitely be giving this one a chance. Written by Rob Williams with artist Trevor Hairsine and a cover by Fiona Staples, Madame X starts off with a clear vision of who did it — but the real challenge is trying to prove it. As an upstart law firm’s psychic consultant, the good Madame uses tarot cards to divine the truth behind cases, helping skeptical lawyers gather evidence that will hold up in court.
