Marvel’s turn! And I guess the biggest release of the week has to be GAMBIT #1. If Andy was here you would get a split-out highlight for it. But he’s still on vacation! Not sure how I feel about Gambit #1. I’m not a big fan of the character. Although there are plenty of Gambit fans out there. Totally gonna read it. Hope it’s good!
Very curious about SENSATIONSAL SPIDER-MAN #33.1. The solicitation for the issue gives us absolutely no clues what it’s about. All it says is that it’s part of Spideys 50th Anniversary celebration. Last weeks, PETER PARKER SPIDER-MAN #156.1 was excellent. Have to see what Sensational is all about. And I have been enjoying SPIDER-MEN #4 (OF 5). Peter goes to the Ultimate Universe. It’s been good. Last issue ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. Aunt May and Gwen were shocked to see that Peter was still alive! Wait until they find out he’s not!
AVX is already starting to wrap it up. Only three more issues to go! Plus, Avengers Academy was unbannered last week and X-MEN LEGACY #271 is unbannered this week. Still looks like a Rogue story but no AVX to be found. The only AVX book of the week is NEW AVENGERS #29 AVX. Looks like the Illuminati might be reforming!
Add in five really random titles.
AVENGERS ASSEMBLE #6 – The Guardians of the Galaxy adorn the cover. And Thanos is involved. It reads pretty well. But they are totally selling out for the movies with this one.
DAREDEVIL ANNUAL #1 – Part two of the Alan Davis annual event! Fantastic Four was part one. Wolverine will be part three. And it features Dr. Strange and Clandestine!
WOLVERINE #311 – Part two of the Jeph Loeb/Simone Bianchi run. Sabertooth is back from the dead! Again!
DEADPOOL KILLS MARVEL UNIVERSE #2 (OF 4) – Weekly series! Deadpool is killing people! Maybe even Sabertooth!
SPACE PUNISHER #2 (OF 4) – The Punisher is in space! But what is even funnier is so is the Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus and the Hulk! First issue was a trip! Although it totally needs a What If?/Elseworlds label on the title for the book to make any sense at all.
And four of the bigger name titles Marvel puts out. CAPTAIN AMERICA #16, FANTASTIC FOUR #609, INCREDIBLE HULK #12, and MIGHTY THOR #18. Have enjoyed them all to one extent or another over the last year or two or five! Last Cap arc with D-Man was excellent. Can’t believe how good the Fantastic Four (and FF) have been lately. Hickman finished his story 4 months ago and they are all just filler! Jason Aaron’s Hulk has had it’s ups and downs. Stay Angry! And the Mighty Thor has just not been the same since Fear Itself. Sorry. Although this issue starts a Journey into Mystery crossover which has me very interested. But what do they all have in common? They are all gonna get Marvel Now’ed! And as much as I’ve enjoyed these titles, and many other Marvel titles over the last year or two or five, I’m ready to be Marvel Now’ed!
Plus SCARLET SPIDER #8 and VENOM #22 which a lot of y’all rave about but I don’t really read. And CAPTAIN AMERICA AND IRON MAN #635 and that’s the Marvel lineup for the week!
Joshua’s got covers tomorrow. Nominees on Thursday. Poll on Friday. Andy will be back on Monday. And the Highlights will be back to normal next week!
See ya!
Rusty
