Highlights for Wednesday, August 29: DC Comics

Justice League 312Though some of the most interesting action in DC Comics will take place in the Annuals — about which we posted on Sunday — certainly one of the most talked about comics of the week is Justice League #12! Most sources, including the cover of the issue itself, seem to indicate that Superman and Wonder Woman will GET! IT! ON! And plus of course that Shazam story has been fantastic.

  • "THE VILLAIN’S JOURNEY" part four!
  • The team struggles to stay together as they try to combat their newest foe.
  • A shocking last page that will have the world talking!
  • Continuing the origin of SHAZAM!

And the only other New 52 title set to come out is Aquaman #12. This issue marks the conclusion to "The Others," and I guess we’ll find out who Black Manta is working for! Also, I have to tease the Robot Chicken Variant cover for this issue. It’s amazing! More on that tomorrow…

Also this week, look for Before Watchmen: Minutemen #3 (of 6). It’s easily been in the top tier of the Before Watchmen titles and Darwyn Cooke has been doing a knock-out job.

Looker #1Finally, we wanted to give a shout to National Comics: Looker #1. This marks the second of DC’s new stand-alone series, telling one-and-done stories, exploring some of The New 52′s characters that, while cool, don’t currently have an outlet for their tales. The first issue focused on Kid Eternity and it was very, very good. This one is written by Ian Edgington, the man behind Marineman!

Emily Briggs was a top supermodel until she was turned into a vampire! Briggs uses her supernatural powers to protect the innocent as they navigate the corrupt world of high fashion and modeling! A fresh, sexy take on a classic DC character!
