As I’m sure you’ve gathered by now — especially if you follow us on The Twitter or The Facebook — I (Andy) have returned from vacation. Hats off to Rusty for doing a completely… adequate job on the Highlights for the past couple weeks. I kid, I kid! He did great. But the reins have been handed back to me and it’s time to get back to business. My first week back, it’s great to see Brian K. Vaughan’s Saga on the shipping list! It’s been either the best or the second best series in comics for the past few months and we have little doubt it will buck that trend.
SAGA #6
IMAGE COMICS
Written by Brian K. Vaughan
Art by Fiona Staples
The epic hit series continues, as Alana and her baby finally reach the legendary Rocketship Forest, where everything changes forever.
Also from Image Comics, Robert Kirkman follows up on a monumental hundredth issue with Walking Dead #101! As you might recall, things got pretty bad last issue. (And if you’ve read Walking Dead #100 and somehow already forgotten what happened, you were likely wise enough to block it out.) Anyway, here’s hoping things get better for Rick, Carl, Glenn and company.
Thirdly, and this makes for a great week for Image Comics, there’s Fatale #7! The second arc of the series continues, as the dark secrets of mid-70s Los Angeles begin to creep into Josephine’s new life. Drugs, sex, cults, fame and murder… all walk hand in hand in the shadow of demonic forces. BUM-BUM-BUUUUUUUUM!
Finally, there’s a brand new series written and illustrated by one of our favorite creators! One of the taglines for this series is, "The raunchiest superheroes since The Boys!" Well, keeping in mind that The Boys is one of our favorites, as is Powers which Mr. Oeming of course co-created, it’s an easy bet that we want to check this one out!
MICHAEL AVON OEMINGS THE VICTORIES #1 (Of 5)
DARK HORSE COMICS
Written and illustrated by Michael Avon Oeming
Not long from now, all that will stand between you and evil are the Victories-six heroes sworn to protect us from crime, corruption, and the dark. As one member cracks down on the violence, he discovers himself touched by a painful past through the psychic powers of Link. Will this trauma cause him to self-destruct or continue the fight?

I was really let down by my selections last week. There’s always hope for this coming week but the pain of several lack-luster books is looming large over me. To be honest I’ve really enjoyed catching up on the back-issues I picked up during the last whiz-bang and the recent Clandestine show.
If things keep up like this it may be time to slim down my inbox and hunt down the missing arcs in my favorite series. Any suggestions feel free to toss an issue or two in my box. I’m open to new content but the stuff I’ve grabbed recently has fizzled.
Read punk rock jesus or idolized from last week. also most of the before the watchmen are really well done. as always listen to the ccx conversations for all of the panel picks.
I have my reservations about anything from Aspen. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the Steigerwald style but the periods between releases are crazy and, if the new Executive Assistant Ongoing series is any indication, the quality of storytelling suffers when they are rushed to put out a new book in under 3 months. Maybe I’ll check out Idolized but I’ll have my doubts from past experience.
Don’t know much about Punk Rock Jesus so I’ll see if I can leaf through a copy before Rusty give me the “Aren’t you going to buy something?” look. (j/k)
