Best Book of the Week Poll – August 17
In the most recent Cosmic Comix Conversation, panelists gave me a hard time for being on board the Conan bandwagon. Well, I consider myself vindicated because Conan the Barbarian #7 won last week’s poll! The people agree with me! Brian Wood’s excellent reboot of the mighty Cimmerian beat out Punk Rock Jesus #2 by one vote!
As for this week, Susan put together the poll for us — Have you met Susan? If not, come on by today and say hi! Anyway, I’m sure it’s a fine assortment of comics, including Rusty’s nominees for the week. So…

Alright, who the heck voted for Birds of Prey?
That would be me. I really had a good batch this week after being let down previously. So why not vote for DD or even Nightwing, both very good books this week? Mostly because I was sure someone else would, likely several someone else’s. I’ll vote up a book that I thought did well despite not being a mainstream title, and because Batgirl didn’t simply show up to get her butt kicked.
I did like it and hope someone else out there on the interwebs shares my affinity for a group of nearly there super heroins. Don’t get me wrong they won’t be submitting resume’s for the Justice League but they are their own brand of awesome.
The last issue before the #0 comes out was no different. The team had some internal problems held over from the last issue, Canary was having a bit of managerial stress keeping the team on task while dealing with a hostile take-over, and they all seemed to be off taking care of their own issues but still trying to meet a singular goal. This issue was good because they all came together, mostly, to defeat a threat from within. Canary got her groove back (sort of), Batgirl didn’t need saving, and one member ended up a motionless pile on the floor at the hands of another! Could they be falling apart? Can the team be restored? Is ?? really dead?!? A real cliffhanger heading into the break where most other titles just simply fizzled out.
Good job BoP, good job.
