Best Book Nominees for Wednesday, August 15

Avengers vs. X-Men #10Comprehensive reviews? Nope. Seven Nominees! Two comments. A question. And a statement. Because Jim finds it riveting!

Nominees!

AVENGERS VS X-MEN #10 (OF 12) – Awesome! Cyclops mowing people down. The Scarlet Witch. A Dragon. And the very first use of the Chaos Fist! AVX has been great!

NIGHTWING #12 – Zero issue month next month at DC, so many, many of the DC titles are wrapping up as the New 52 year one comes to a close. Nightwing did it great. Plus there is still plenty more to come with Sonia Branch/Zucco and Haley’s Circus. And now, when you start looking back at the New 52 books, one year later, ya gotta say Nightwing is easily one of the best.

RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #12 – I just love. Can’t believe, one year later, that I’m still reading it, but I love it! There might not have been a joke in this entire issue! It’s a very serious book! And, yes, it has a plot! And plenty of action. Really looking forward to the origin of Jason Todd next issue. Very curious as to how they play that. And then two sisters square off against an empire!

SAGA #6 – Okay. That’s enough. Every issue can not be better than the previous issue! It is comic-bookly impossible! They went to a spaceship garden and flew away in a tree spaceship! And the bounty hunter told the TV head guy that he was going to kill him for killing the spider lady! And, best of all, we got to meet the grandparents! Saga. Living up to its name!

Saga #6SAUCER COUNTRY #6 – Featured a symposium. For virtually the entire issue. Title of symposium? A field guide to flying saucers. The modern UFO era began in 1947 with Kenneth Arnold. After seeing some strange flying objects he referred to them moving like a saucer being skipped across the water. Also, worked in Roswell, Stealth Bombers, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Have no idea what was “fact” and what was part of the Saucer Country world. Lots of territory was covered and it was the best symposium I have ever attended in my life! In for a little UFO “history”? Read it up!

WALKING DEAD #101 – Carl pulled a gun on Maggie and got in a fight with Sophie. Don’t worry they all made up. And Andrea is okay. And now they got themselves a prisoner. And if it helps just think of Jesus as the new Glenn!

X-MEN #34 – I always hold out hope that Warren Ellis will do some more straight up superhero comics. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen very often. Fortunately, Brian Wood writes a great superhero comic with a very distinct Warren Ellis spin. This book is great! Sihal Novarum Chinoth!

Oh. Um. Seems we’ve teleported on…

Comments!

DEADPOOL KILLS MARVEL UNIVERSE #3 (OF 4) – Is really worth reading. Not recommending the single issues; it’s a weekly series that will be over next week and it’s way sold out. Totally recommend reading the trade and we’ll be sure to spotlight it when it comes out!

GREEN LANTERN #12 and GREEN LANTERN CORPS #12 –There are some DC Annuals coming out at the end of the month. Both GL #12 and GL Corps #12 said to be concluded in the Annual. Just a head’s up.

Question!

WONDER WOMAN #12 – I thought it ended pretty well. Ducks in a row and all that. Some of you hold it to a higher standard than I do. Happy with the way the first year of Wonder Woman ended?

Statement!

BEFORE WATCHMEN RORSCHACH #1 (OF 4) – Rorschach is CRAZY!

See ya!

Incredible Hulk #12Rusty

PS – The Best Book of the Week is still Incredible Hulk #12! Did you not read it?! The Hulk and Thing were fighting. The Thing looked at the Hulk and said, hey, what’s that you have in your hand? Is that a piece of my head? And the Hulk looked at the Thing, squeezed his hand tightly and turned that piece of Thing’s head into dust! And then he blew it away like a dandelion! It was awesome! As was Saga #6. As was AVX #10. Poll on Thursday. Vote it up!
