Looking Forward to September: Everything Else

Happy! #1Oh no! We’ve come once again to the end of our Looking Forward cycle. Always a sad time. We’ve already seen what Marvel has to offer, and we’ve seen what DC has to offer. Now it’s time to see what all the other publishers have up their sleeves a couple months down the road! But don’t cry… it all starts over again next week!

IMAGE COMICS

Written by Grant Morrison
Art by Darick Robertson

Meet NICK SAX – a corrupt, intoxicated ex-cop turned hit-man, adrift in a stinking twilight world of casual murder, soulless sex, eczema and betrayal.  With a hit gone wrong, a bullet in his side, the cops and the mob on his tail, and a monstrous child killer in a Santa suit on the loose, Nick and his world will be changed forever this Christmas.  By a tiny blue horse called Happy…

Writer Grant Morrison has long been a Cosmic Comix favorite. From his work on Batman to JLA to last year’s Joe the Barbarian and much more, and these days he’s working hard on Batman Incorporated and Action Comics. This new mini-series for Image definitely piques our interest, not only because it’s written by Morrison, but because he’s teaming up with Transmetropolitan‘s own Darick Robertson!

From Eisner Award-winning writer Greg Rucka and acclaimed artist Matthew Southworth comes a new STUMPTOWN mystery! When Mim Bracca, guitar player for the Portland-based rock group Tailhook, returns home from a long tour, she finds not everything made it back with her. Can P.I. Dex Parios track down her missing baby?

Did you read the first volume of Stumptown? Because it was great. Greg Rucka and artist Matthew Southworth really delivered an excellent crime story, about private investigator with a gambling problem, hired by the casino owner to find her runaway grandchild in exchange for wiping out her gambling debt. Needless to say, STUFF HAPPENED. And not good stuff. Can’t wait for the next volume!

Tower Chronicles Vol. 1TOWER CHRONICLES GN VOL 01 (OF 4) GEISTHAWK
LEGENDARY COMICS

Written by Matt Wagner
Art by Simon Bisley

He lives to kill the dead. Written by Matt Wagner (Grendel) and enveloped with Thomas Tull, the executive producer of 300, The Tower Chronicles is the tale of John Tower, a supernatural bounty hunter who tracks down the creeping shadows that the modern world has all but forgotten. His harrowing missions lead him across the globe and into the darkest recesses of mankind’s most dangerous places to banish a wide variety of poltergeists, demons, and other unfathomable evils to free his troubled patrons. Illustrated by Simon Bisley, this volume features a cover by comics legend Jim Lee.

An unusual pick for us, but the pedigree on this book is not to be denied. The Tower Chronicles is the collective title of a series comprising three books. The trilogy explores the history and contemporary adventures of John Tower, a supernatural bounty hunter with a grim and secretive past that haunts his every action. Each book will be divided into four separate chapters starting with the initial release of Volume 1 in September. Written by Matt Wagner, the creator of Grendel and Mage, featuring art by acclaimed 2000 AD & Lobo artist Simon Bisley!

Doctor Who #1DOCTOR WHO VOL 3 #1
IDW PUBLISHING

Written by Andy Diggle
Art by Mark Buckingham

The Doctor is back! Welcome to a new, exciting era for everyone’s favorite Time Lord, as New York Times bestselling writer Andy Diggle (The Losers) pilots the TARDIS as the ongoing series architect. Joining him for this first arc is Eisner Award-winning artist Mark Buckingham (Fables), who also will provide covers for the series. Geronimo!

Another title that doesn’t get a whole lot of play from us, but this is a pretty big event. A new ongoing Doctor Who series! Plus, we’ve enjoyed Andy Diggle’s work before on titles like The Losers, and Mark Buckingham’s artwork on Fables is fantastic. Definitely worth checking out.
