Highlights for Wednesday, July 25: DC Comics

Before Watchmen: Comedian #2This week’s DC selections lead off with the third #2 issue from the Before Watchmen event. It’s Brian Azzarello and JG Jones’ Before Watchmen: Comedian #2! You might recall that the first issue featured said Comedian romping around with the Kennedy family (which may or may not be consistent with the original Watchmen series) and taking out Marilyn Monroe (which may or may not be consistent with actual history, ha).

BEFORE WATCHMEN COMEDIAN #2 (OF 6)

Written by Brian Azzarello, Len Wein
Art by J. G. Jones, John Higgins

"It’s something I’m good at. It’s war."

Plus, a new CRIMSON CORSAIR backup feature from writer LEN WEIN and artist JOHN HIGGINS!

I also have to say we’re stoked about I Vampire #11! This series is about as off-the-chain as you can imagine. Armies of vampires taking on armies of Van Helsings… power struggles… and some of the coolest art in comics right now. EXHIBIT A. Read it!

Then there’s Justice League Dark #11. Writer Jeff Le,ire took over this series a couple issues back and has been doing a great job. Last issue, he took the crew tot he House of Mystery! This issue sees John Constantine, et. al., arriving at Argus for round two with the Demons Three!

Eternity #1And speaking of Mr. Lemire, he’s also responsible for our final pick of the day: National Comics: Eternity #1.With this issue, DC launches a new stand-alone series. National Comics will tell one-and-done stories, exploring some of The New 52′s characters that, while cool, don’t currently have an outlet for their tales. The first four in the spotlight will be Eternity, Madame X, Rose and Thorn, and Looker. Each of these will have one issue to introduce the reader to their little corner of the universe, with the hopes of building from there.

NATIONAL COMICS ETERNITY #1

Written by Jeff Lemire

An exciting new series of stand-alone comics that feature unique takes on classic characters! Jeff Lemire (Animal Man) and Cully Hamner (Red) bring a contemporary approach to the hero we used to know as Kid Eternity! Can introverted medical examiner Kid Eternity solve a deadly crime in just 24 hours?
