Highlights for Wednesday, July 11: Marvel Comics

There are quite a few Marvel Comics titles worth mentioning this week, so let’s get right to it! We’ll start things off with Avenging Spider-Man #9. It’s a series that’s been somewhat on the sidelines, but with occasional flashes of the very cool. It looks like this issue could be one of those flashes as we get a story of the new Captain Marvel!

Spider-Man plummets into action with the star of this month’s hottest new comic: the all new CAPTAIN MARVEL! 50,000 feet up and only on one of them can fly… Is the World’s Greatest Super Hero Ready for a ride with Earth’s Mightiest Hero?

We’re also kind of pumped about Space Punisher #1 (of 4)! We’ve always dug a Punisher story that borders on the weird (as evidenced by our affinity for Frankencastle) and this definitely appears to fit that bill. And, for purists bristling at the thought of Castle going off world, or those whose minds (like mine) become boggled by the very idea of it, rest assured, according to Marvel we’re meeting this Frank Castle for the first time. He might resemble The Punisher we all know and love, but he, and the world of the story, stand separate from the classic Marvel Universe.

Then there’s Spider-Men #3 (of 5). The second issue of the series was very well received around here, and this issue promises both Spider-Man’s — Peter Parker and Miles Morales — in a battle with Mysterio!

Also check out Ultimate Comics X-Men #14. It’s the first issue that ties in to "Divided We Fall," the next big event in the Ultimate Marvel Universe. According to Marvel, all the Ultimate titles will be affected… and the whole thing begins right here!

Finally, speaking of events, we’ll give a shout to Avengers vs. X-Men. In particular, AVX Vs. #4 (of 6)! This mini-series has been big fun so far, just focusing on the fights that are taking place in the main story.
