Highlights for Wednesday, July 11: DC Comics

It’s a little lighter on the DC Comics front this week, but don’t you fret! Because there are still several titles worth your attention. We’ll start with Before Watchmen: Minutemen #2. We totally dug the first issue, as it looked in on all the members of the legendary superhero team, and had that signature Darwyn Cooke style to give it an air of old timey authenticity.

Moving over to Vertigo, we’re also pretty interested in Punk Rock Jesus #1, written and illustrated by Sean Murphy. He blew our minds last year with his work on the American Vampire mini-series Survival of the Fittest (available in the third American Vampire collection), but we haven’t seen much of him since. He has a very unique style and the cover (come back tomorrow) has us excited to read more!

And speaking of American Vampire, also look for American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares #2 (of 5)! As with most of the books in this series, the first issue was excellent and had a fantastic last page. Look out for Dracula!

Finally, we’ve got a double dose of Batman for you this week! Batman #11 promises the conclusion to "The Court of Owls," which has been one of the more fascinating (not to mention popular) Batman stories in recent memory. There’s also Batman and Robin #11. The last issue was a top five book in our Top Twenty. Needless to say, we’ll be reading this. We also had to chuckle about the cover situation in the Batman books this week. As you can see on the cover of Batman #11, flames are rising around Batman with a vengeance! But take a look at the cover to Batman and Robin #11. Looks like he took on that fire with no problem!
