Highlights for Wednesday, August 1: DC Comics
Andy is on vacation! First week of the month brings us to our first batch of issue #12′s. That’s a year of the new 52! And here’s ALL your DC choices for the week.
Starting with ANIMAL MAN #12 and SWAMP THING #12. The Rotworld cross-over begins! Although the cover does say prologue…hmmm…we are getting zero issues next month and it looks like the actual cross-over begins with issue #13. Doesn’t matter I’ll be reading. Hopefully something happens!
I will also be reading
ACTION COMICS #12 – I always enjoy. Grant Morrison always gives me something to think about. Sometimes to the headache point!
BATWING #12 – It has it’s ups and downs but I’m still reading.
BEFORE WATCHMEN NITE OWL #2 (OF 4) – The weakest of the Before Watchmen titles? Maybe. But the first issue was still good, and I’m very curious to see what the second issue brings.
DETECTIVE COMICS #12 – Tony Daniel’s last issue. Zero issue next month. Then John Layman takes over. And the artist currently doing the back up story, Szymon Kudranski, will be taking over as the regular artist with issue #13. Can not wait! Detective Comics #13 is going to be a mucho must read!
RED LANTERNS #12 – Started strong. Been wavering lately. Still reading. Still like Atrocious. Story just needs some streamlining.
STORMWATCH #12 – Will read until I die! Or until it gets canceled…It’s very much like Red Lanterns and Batwing and a few other DC books. Story needs some streamlining. I read it. I like it okay. But as I type this I have no idea what the overall plot or direction is or even what happened last month. Sigh.
WORLDS FINEST #4 – I have liked the first three issues. The book is split between present day and flashback sequences. Do prefer the flashback sequences with the Kevin Maguire art. There’s far more story there and far less fighting.
And of course, EARTH 2 #4! Wow. We talked about issue #3 enough this past month! Will issue #4 cause the same controversies. Find out tomorrow!
Which only leaves four books that I don’t normally read. The last regular issue of JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #12 although there will be an annual next month, GI COMBAT #4 which virtually nobody reads and is a total bust (sorry), GREEN ARROW #12 which is also not doing very well (sorry), DIAL H #4 which I may have misjudged originally and need to read again cause y’all keep adding it to your list and it’s selling better than I ever expected, and SMALLVILLE SEASON 11 #4 which according to both Shawn and Andy K. is the best Superman book on the market! So I better start reading it!
All and all not a bad week for DC going in. See how many get nominated on Thursday!
See ya!
Rusty
