Best Covers of the Day – Wednesday, July 18

X-Factor #240Aaaaaaand, we’re off! Another week has officially begun! Yes, the comic book week begins on Wednesday, which means that for those of us who live and breathe comics, OUR week begins on Wednesday too…. which actually makes it our Monday. So, therefore, the real Monday is basically my Saturday, Tuesday my Sunday. Which means that whenever you guys come into the store on Friday and say, "Thank God it’s Friday!" we’re thinking, "Yeah right… " So keep it to yourselves next time, you inconsiderate jerks! We’re still trying to make it over the hump!

(Editor’s note: Don’t mind Andy B. He’s in a bad mood today. We think it all stems back to Walking Dead #100.)

X-FACTOR #240

Cover by David Yardin

I had to include this cover, mainly for two reasons: A) Because it’s way cool, and B) Because I feel like every time I DON’T include X-Factor a certain subscriber who shall remain nameless gives me an earful about it!

All kidding aside, it’s an awesome cover. Layla is racing the clock! And whoever designed the cover decided to make a reference to a German movie from 10 years ago! Layla rennt!

Mars Attacks #2MARS ATTACKS #2

Cover by John McCrea

I might be one of only like 12 people who appreciate Mars Attacks, but come on! This cover is great! This martian is big enough to crush our planet with his bare hands and yet still he decides to belch out a zillion little spacecraft to get the job done! How are the people of Earth ever going to band together to repel the invading horde?!

Idea: get several dozen Hannibal Lechter’s and go to work on those giant brains of theirs. With some fava beans.

Saga #5SAGA #5

Cover by Fiona Staples

The Saga Lovefest of 2012 continues! I know, I know. We’ve given this series plenty of attention around here, but it is most deserved. As is this cover.

Prince TV Head is posed (and dressed) like Napolean and is clearly planning his conquest of the globe. Except this book takes place on multiple planets so he’s probably planning his conquest of the galaxy.

But seriously, if you haven’t been reading this book and then see this cover on the rack, how are you not super intrigued? And also thinking, "Whoa… This guy doesn’t even appear to be ready for the conversion to digital and he’s planning to take over the world? I’ve GOTTA read this!"

Uncanny X-Men #16UNCANNY X-MEN #16

Cover by Daniel Acuña

Yes indeed. As promised in yesterday’s Highlights column. Check out Mister Sinister, who apparently has some skills in the falconry department. The past few issues of this series haven’t had a whole lot to do with AVX, mainly just about Sinister’s underground City of Many Sinister’s. But I guess in this issue we’re gonna get some Phoenix action!

Speaking of falconry, though, this reminds me of the night I went to Medieval Times. The falconer guy came out, ready to do his thing with a highly trained bird of prey… which, upon its release, immediately flew straight up into the rafters and wouldn’t come down. Let me tell you, with a few meads under your belt that is about as hilarious as it gets.

Wow, that martian has some BAD breath!!! Do you think Prince TV Head goes with satellite, Comcast, or Fios? Can he get pay per view?
