This Wednesday sees the debut of an all-new mutant team in an all-new ongoing series! It’s X-Treme X-Men #1! It appears to be a book chock full of time jumping, starring a solid cast of characters. Could definitely be a fun ride. Also, not mentioned in the below solicitation is that one of the team members is a certain legend of the disco era… Dazzler!
"We’re going all new, all the time," said writer Greg Pak, "The joy of a book like X-Treme X-Men is that literally anything can happen—we’re running wild, pressing all the danger buttons, and pushing our characters to their limits. So as much as I love so many of the existing alternate Marvel realities, we’re going to cut loose as creators as well and dream up new worlds that feed our big storyline and create the right kind of crises for our characters’ emotional arcs."
Quite a vision Mr. Pak has! Looking forward to it.

Leading off for Marvel, we’re gonna go with a little Millarworld action and Hit-Girl #2! Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. continue the spin-off of their smash series Kick-Ass. This story takes place just after the first volume of Kick-Ass. The first issue was pretty tame by Millar standards, so we’re hoping to see Hit-Girl do some slicing and a little dicing this time around!
And, somewhat related, is Captain America #15! Still reeling from Hydra’s Madbombs, Cap finds himself the target of a vicious media smear campaign. Who are the Discordians and what will they blow up next?! More excitement from the mind of Mr. Brubaker.
This week’s DC selections lead off with the third #2 issue from the Before Watchmen event. It’s Brian Azzarello and JG Jones’ Before Watchmen: Comedian #2! You might recall that the first issue featured said Comedian romping around with the Kennedy family (which may or may not be consistent with the original Watchmen series) and taking out Marilyn Monroe (which may or may not be consistent with actual history, ha).
And speaking of Mr. Lemire, he’s also responsible for our final pick of the day: National Comics: Eternity #1.With this issue, DC launches a new stand-alone series. National Comics will tell one-and-done stories, exploring some of The New 52′s characters that, while cool, don’t currently have an outlet for their tales. The first four in the spotlight will be Eternity, Madame X, Rose and Thorn, and Looker. Each of these will have one issue to introduce the reader to their little corner of the universe, with the hopes of building from there.
