Highlights for Wednesday, June 27: Everything Else

LOEG III Century #3We’ve got some very interesting releases lined up this week for the Everything Else category, including some new favorites, some old favorites and one we honestly almost forgot about! That one is of course Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. We’ve been a supporter of the series since it began many years ago, and this most recent volume has been coming out from Top Shelf Productions as thicker, almost trade paperback-sized comics. The third and final installment in the series comes out on Wednesday!

LOEG III CENTURY #3 2009
TOP SHELF PRODUCTIONS

Written by Alan Moore
Art by Kevin O’Neill

The narrative reaches its cataclysmic conclusion in London 2009. The magical child whose ominous coming has been foretold for the past century has now been born and has grown up to claim his dreadful heritage. His promised age of unending terror can commence, the world can now be ended, and there is no League, extraordinary or otherwise, to stand in his way. The bitter, intractable war in Q’umar crawls bloodily to its fifth year, away in Kashmir a Sikh terrorist wages a holy war against Islam that must push the world into a nuclear holocaust, and in a London asylum there’s a patient who insists she has all the answers.

Moving over to Dark Horse, we have Angel & Faith #11! This title is one of the newest additions to our TPBs & Graphic Novels section and we firnly stand by it (with the concurrently running Buffy series) as one of the most enjoyable comics coming out today!

Manhattan Projects #4 As for Image, look for Whispers #3. It’s the third issue of the new series from Joshua Luna, who you might recognize as one half of the Luna Brothers, creators of The Sword and Girls. We liked those series very much and we’ve been liking this one, too. It’s taken a little while to get off the ground, but we’re patient.

Finally, also from Image, there’s Manhattan Projects #4! In classic Jonathan Hickman fashion, this series has been absolutely mental. Which isn’t to say it’s been unreadable; far from it! It’s just a wild ride from start to finish!

The Life and Death of Albert Einstein. The blockbuster FEEL GOOD, BAD SCIENCE series continues in THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS #3: THE ROSE BRIDGE!

50¢ Heroclix Whiz Bang!

Whiz BangIf you came in the store last week, you might have noticed a big old plastic tub of HEROCLIX on the back table. We got our hands on hundreds upon hundreds of the miniature game pieces and so this week we’re giving them the Whiz Bang treatment! You can get them this week for just 50¢ EACH! Or, if you’re really feeling it, get 25 FOR $10! Here’s the specifics:

From Wednesday, June 27, through Tuesday, July 3, all loose Heroclix pieces on the front table — and there are literally hundreds to choose from — are just 5 each! Or 25 for $10!

If you’ve never played Heroclix before, it’s pretty cool. Similar to other role-playing games in that it involves doing battle against another player, sustaining damage and so on. But what sets Heroclix apart is that the characters fearured in the game are all your favorite comic book characters! Marvel and DC, Image and Dark Horse. We don’t know exactly what all we’ve got in there, but given the sheer volume… you’re sure to find a character you like!
