I do not have much to say this week other than I happened to read some great books. These three were my favorites of the week. They are:
THE ULTIMATES #11
Marvel Comics
Written by Sam Humphries & Jonathan Hickman
Art by Luke Ross, Butch Guice, Leonard Kirk, & Patrick Zircher
I have been praising The Ultimates for some time now and I was concerned as new writer Sam Humphries comes in and slowly takes over the reigns from Jonathan Hickman. I did not want to lose the intricate plot, the spot-on characterization, or the high stakes this series has set up. With Humphries’ inclusion here I am happy to say the book continues the quality the previous ten issues offered, but manages to raise the level of crazy in doing so.
Following Reed Richards and his Tomorrow People’s attack on Asgard and Washington DC, the new US President has declared war on the Ultimates. While on the run from SHIELD, Tony Stark tries to hatch a plan to get back at Richards and save his team. What Stark does not know is that Reed wants the world to pay him homage and the new US President does so by delivering him a hero all wrapped up in a bow.
I am purposely being a little vague because part of the fun in this issue comes in the little details peppered throughout. What is going to happen to the new Black Widow, Falcon, and Hawkeye? Can the team suffer any other setbacks? And wow, is Ultimate Reed Richards not one of the craziest, coolest villains in the Ultimate Marvel U? If you have been reading it you already know the answer to this last one. Hint: That’s a YES!
