Highlights for Wednesday, May 9: Marvel Comics

Uncanny X-Force #25For a while there, Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force was pound for pound the best X-book on the shelves. The tales of the X-Men’s secret black ops team, in particular the return of Apocalypse, were downright awesome. The book then lost a bit of its spark for a while. But with this week’s Uncanny X-Force #26, which kicks off a brand new chapter, hopefully X-Force is back, baby!

UNCANNY X-FORCE #25

Landmark 25th issue! The epic saga THE FINAL EXECUTION begins here! Who are the Omegas and why must X-Force hunt them down? Included in this issue: Two rare stories by Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña starring Wolverine and Deadpool!

Also this week, look out for a triple shot of Avengers vs. X-Men tie-in’s with New Avengers #26, Wolverine and the X-Men #10 and X-Men Legacy #266! It’s also a double Ultimates week with Ultimate Comics X-Men #11 and Ultimate Comics Ultimates #10!

Plus, if you happened to pick up last month’s Omega Effect story arc — which ran through Avenging Spider-Man, Punisher and Daredevil — and you’re interested to see what those books are like on their own, this week is your chance! Look for Avenging Spider-Man #7 and Punisher #11.

Marvel Zombies Destroy #1Finally, we have to give it up for the newest series in the Marvel Zombies canon: Marvel Zombies Destroy #1. I believe this is the sixth or seventh Marvel Zombies mini-series and just about all of them have been entertaining. Hard not to love Howard the Duck!

Highlights for Wednesday, May 9: DC Comics

Batman #9Night of the Owls continues this week in no less than three DC Comics titles! Because we gave them a mention earlier in the day for the Batman Vol. 1 HC that’s coming out this week, we’ll start this week with Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman #9!

BATMAN #9

Written by Scott Snyder
Art by Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion

Batman must stop the Talons that have breeched the Batcave in order to save an innocent life…and Gotham City! In the backup story, learn more about the Pennyworth family and the secrets they’ve kept from the Wayne family!

But I did say there are three Night of the Owls titles coming out! The other two are of course Batman and Robin #9 and Batgirl #9. In the former, Damian must face Talon alone, while over in Batgirl… the story is much the same! They’re all fighting owls in Gotham these days! And they’re not those kindly owls who lick Tootsie Pops either, I can tell you that.

Suicide Squad #9As for a few quick hits, look for Superboy #9 and Legion Lost #9, which continue The Culling storyline! Plus of course there’s Green Lantern #9, which looks to reveal more of the secrets of the mysterious Indigo Tribe.

Finally, we’re happy to give a shout to Suicide Squad #9, which features a crossover with this week’s Resurrection Man #9! Amanda Waller and the Suicide Squad want Mitch Shelley’s seemingly indestructible body in the worst way possible – and that’s how they’ll probably wind up getting it!The tag line on the cover of Suicide Squad is great: "Raising Hell and Resurrection Man."

SUICIDE SQUAD #9

Written by Adam Glass
Art by Fernando Dagnino

Part one of a crossover with Resurrection Man! Deadshot, the marksman with a death wish, battles the unkillable Resurrection Man… it’s gonna get violent! Continued in this month’s Resurrection Man #9!
