Highlights for Wednesday, Apr. 11: Marvel Comics

Avengers Assemble #2Over the past two weeks, a big part of the story for Marvel Comics has been Avengers vs. X-Men, the big event that pits two of the most popular teams in comics history against one another. And, though we don’t get an issue of the main series this week, we do get New Avengers #24, which is the first of the AVX tie-in’s!

In other Avengers news, we’re also set to get Avengers Assemble #2, the second issue of the comic that is perfect for new fans excited by the upcoming Avengers movie. And it’s not too bad for you veterans either, as it features in-continuity incarnations of the characters and comes from writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mark Bagley!

Who is the Zodiac? The blockbuster team behind Ultimate Spider-Man brings you an in-continuity Avengers team for movie and comic book fans alike!

And since we gave the Avengers some play, we have to give the X-Men some. It’s only fair! That said, be sure to check out Uncanny X-Men  #10, which not only boasts a very cool cover (tune in tomorrow) but follows up on last issue’s jailbreak and a very powerful computer-type being named Unit.

Winter Soldier #4Over in the world of Thor, we’re set to get a Point One issue (not to mention the return of the man himself) in Mighty Thor #12.1 and the conclusion of "The Terrorism Myth" in Journey into Mystery #636. Along with Uncanny X-Men, Journey into Mystery is one of the two truly outstanding books currently being written by Kieron Gillen (who some claim is Andy B’s doppelganger).

Finally, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t excited about Winter Soldier #4 from Ed Brubaker and Butch Guice! Which I have to say features one of the more confusing solicitations of the week…

Bucky vs. a gorilla! You heard me, look at that cover. The villains plot revealed! Featuring Dr. Doom, Red Ghost, and more!

I’m looking at that cover, but I don’t see no gorilla! No matter, the last issue featured all kinds of cool stuff about Latveria and a lady named Lucia von Bardas. Can’t wait to see where this title goes next.
