FCBDFREE COMIC BOOK DAY (FCBD) is now just TWO weeks away! So that must mean it’s time to bring you FCBD@Cosmic Comix Part Two! It’s the second in our series of posts designed to tell you exactly what you can expect to find at Cosmic Comix & Toys on that awesome day.

In FCBD@Cosmic Comix Part One, we gave you the first taste of what exactly the party will entail. I don’t want to spoil the fun before you click back to find out for yourself but a small part of it is 25% OFF EVERYTHING IN THE STORE!

So… what do we have up our sleeves this week? What more could we add to the already solid list of special events and details? GLAD YOU ASKED.

Tim Murphy1) SUPER SAVER DEALS! A Cosmic Comix trademark. All over the store you’ll find special deals discounted even more than 25% off! Remember Secret Invasion at 80% off?? And the $10 hardcovers featured in this week’s Whiz Bang?? Those are two great examples of the types of deals you’ll see on Free Comic Book Day! Now, exactly what will the deals be? Stop on by and find out!

2) SKETCH ARTIST! Local artist Tim Murphy (see image at right) will once again be joining us to do sketches of all kinds. Want an awesome drawing of Superman? Or Batman? Or Wolverine? This will be your chance! And guess what? IT’S TOTALLY FREE!!

Dice3) DICE TABLE! Wait a second… did you say dice table? What is this, FCBD@Vegas? No! It’s FCBD@Cosmic Comix! And it’s one of the coolest things we’ll have going on Free Comic Book Day. We’ve upgraded from last year’s prize wheel to a fully functioning dice table! Now you’ll be able to roll the bones — the oversized fuzzy dice, that is — for a chance to win all kinds of fun prizes! Every roll is a winner!

The excitement gets ratcheted up another notch! And we’re not even done yet! Look for another installment of FCBD@Cosmic Comix next week!

Incredible Hulk #7I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say I think it’s gonna be a good year for comic books. I know, I know: EVERY year is a good year for comic books… because they rule! But this year is going to be particularly good. I’ll get to the reasons in a second, but what made me even consider it was an event I saw that celebrates 1982 as the best summer EVER for movies. ET, Dark Crystal, Pink Floyd: The Wall, Secret of NIMH, Tron, Star Trek II, Conan, the list goes on. It just got me thinking that this year, exactly 30 years later, could be a great year for comics. Not just from the movie standpoint — though Avengers, Spider-Man and Batman could indeed combine for the most powerful and high quality comic book movie line-up ever — but the talent in comic books themselves is very high right now! Let me explain.

INCREDIBLE HULK #7

Variant Cover by CP Wilson III

Clever, clever, clever. This could very well be the best variant cover of the year. A fantastic tribute to Winnie the Pooh, with Hulk playing the role of Pooh and, instead of getting stuck in Rabbit’s door, getting himself stuck in a "Werm hole exparimunt." I love how the other Avengers are looking on in perplexity. I also like how Hulk has no hands.

It’s one of this week’s batch of Avengers Art Appreciation variants, of which we got several this week and which I mentioned in my previous column. You’ve seen work by these guys before, like Alex Maleev and Gabriel Dell’Otto, and I don’t think I’m going out on a limb by saying they’re some of the best artists in pop culture. I’m glad they’re on our team and they’re my first reason for thinking that comics are on a high this year.
