Brian Michael Bendis reunites with his Ultimate Spider-Man collaborator Mark Bagley for a new Avengers ongoing series! Basically a no-brainer. Looks like the line-up includes Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, the Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow… pretty much the exact same crew that’s gonna be in the Avengers movie. Props to Marvel for being savvy and putting out a big new series, perfect for movie goers who need somewhere to get on board.

The Avengers versus the *brand-new* Zodiac! One of the greatest Avengers villains of all time gets reinvented for the modern age just in time for the blockbuster movie event of the summer!
A perfect jumping-on point featuring the cast of the summer blockbuster but in Marvel Universe continuity!
Marvel Comics’ Avengers Assemble #1 comes out this Wednesday!
March 13th, 2012 at 3:58 pm - Highlights -
While the big Marvel Comics release of the week — Avengers Assemble #1, which we’ll discuss a little later today — marks a new beginning, many of the other high-profile titles in the Marvel Universe see the end of their respective storylines.
For instance, Avengers #24 features the conclusion to the epic Norman Osborn/HAMMER storyline, while Fantastic Four #604 brings Jonathan Hickman’s "Forever" storyline to a close. Meanwhile, Incredible Hulk #6 is what I think you would call the penultimate issue in the Hulk vs. Banner showdown! Likewise with Journey into Mystery and the battle with Nightmare…
JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #635
Written by Kieron Gillen
Art by Richard Elson
Nightmare’s plan is revealed. Can Daimon Hellstrom, Leah and Loki stop it? Maybe. Can they stop it and keep Loki alive? Less likely. Is Loki willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to let the world sleep soundly tonight? Or is there another option…
As you can see, Journey into Mystery still sports that Shattered Heroes banner… which can also be seen on Captain America #9! (How’s that for a segue?) Ed Brubaker and Alan Davis continue their collaboration, this time giving us what looks top be a Sharon Carter story.
Meanwhile, the X-Family is experiencing a few endings of its own, as both Daken Dark Wolverine and X-23 see their series finales! But of course that’s not all, as we’re also set to get X-Men Legacy #263, Ultimate Comics X-Men #9 and…
WOLVERINE AND X-MEN #7
Written by Jason Aaron
Art by Nick Bradshaw
A pregnant Kitty Pryde, Broo the Broodling, and an army of Bamfs vs. an all-new, unstoppable alien foe! Meanwhile, Beast, Iceman, & Rachel Grey shrink down inside their friend to deal with her… condition! Plus, Wolverine deals with a problem you never thought he’d face…
Jason Aaron and Nick Bradshaw have given us a wild ride in that one, including (as you can see in the cover) a lot of running around inside Kitty Pryde’s stomach! It’s a regular war zone in there!
These titles and more all come out on Wednesday!
March 13th, 2012 at 1:45 pm - DC Comics: The New 52, Highlights -
As for DC Comics this week, the big one is clearly Suicide Squad #7. The previous issue, featuring a fantastic Harley Quinn story, was one of the hottest comics of February. We’re expecting to get in second prints of that issue next week, so if you missed it the first time around keep that in mind. As for this week’s issue, can’t wait to see what Harley has in store as she continues the search for her one true love, the Joker (who hasn’t been seen in the New 52 yet). Love that cover, too!
SUICIDE SQUAD #7
Written by Adam Glass
Art by Clayton Henry
Hunted through the streets of Gotham City, her former teammates on the Suicide Squad in relentless pursuit – Harley Quinn is out of friends, out of luck and out of time. Will Harley find The Joker before the Squad finds her? Place your bets, people: It’s Harley Quinn vs. the Suicide Squad! Plus: Harley’s origin revealed – it ain’t pretty!
Elsewhere in the New 52, look for Green Lantern #7. Hal Jordan and Cosmic Madness #3 seed Sinestro continue their team-up and kick off a new story arc entitled "The Secret of the Indigo Tribe." Plus, it’s a big week for the Batman family of books as we’re set to get Batwoman #7 and Batgirl #7, the latter of which apparently delves into some of the detail in Barbara Gordon’s past, perhaps filling in some blanks between The Killing Joke and the New 52? Plus, look for…

BATMAN AND ROBIN #7
Written by Peter J. Tomasi
Art by Patrick Gleason, Mick Gray
Batman finally discovers NoBody’s lair and must confront Robin and NoBody in an explosive, brutal battle that will shake them all to their very core!
We also can’t forget Ray #4 (of 4). It’s the final issue of what has been a very entertaining little mini-series. And speaking of entertaining mini-series (or maxi-series if you want to be pick nits), there’s Shade #6 (of 12), the past few issues of which have been outstanding.
Finally, DC’s Vertigo imprint has a solid line-up on the week. We already mentioned Paul Cornell’s Saucer Country, and we’re also looking forward to Northlanders #49 (along with a new Northlanders TP) and Unwritten #35!
These titles and more all come out on Wednesday!

Whenever a new Vertigo series debuts, it’s always reason for a highlight. This week we see the first issue of Saucer Country, from writer Paul Cornell and artist Ryan Kelly. UFOs! Politics! I think I said this once before but it sort of sounds like Ex Machina meets Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
SAUCER COUNTRY #1
Written by Paul Cornell
Art by Ryan Kelly
Arcadia Alvarado, the leading Democratic candidate for President of the United States, says she was "abducted by aliens."
As the Mexican-American Governor of New Mexico, she’s dealing with immigration, budget cuts and an alcoholic ex. She’s about to toss her hat into the ring as a candidate for President in the most volatile political climate ever.
But then…a lonely road and a nightmarish encounter have left her with terrible, half-glimpsed memories. And now she has to become President. To expose the truth – and maybe, to save the world.
Arcadia’s quest is at the heart of this new monthly series from writer Paul Cornell (Demon Knights, Action Comics, Doctor Who) and artist Ryan Kelly (New York Five, Northlanders). With the help of her quirky staff, Arcadia will pursue the truth of her abduction into danger, mystery and awe. Saucer Country is a dark thriller that blends UFO lore and alien abduction with political intrigue, all set in the hauntingly beautiful Southwest.
I don’t know how much I can add to the lengthy solicitation, so give it a read and let us know what you think!

You thought we’d be too bust tallying the Cosmic Madness votes and scoring your brackets to tell you about all the good comics set to come out this week? Well you were wrong! On the Dark Horse, Image and Everything Else side of the things there are definitely some solid titles coming out. We already told you about Brian K. Vaughan’s new series Saga from Image Comics, but this week also sees the second issue of another hot series from Image, Thief of Thieves #2 from Robert Kirkman and Nick Spencer! The first issue was excellent, and we got more copies in this week!

Conrad Paulson has turned his back to his life as Redmond, international master criminal, in order to regain some semblance of the life he left behind. Will it be enough to reconcile with his wife? Save his son from the life? Or will it end up getting them all killed?
Dark Horse has quite a lot going on this week, too. For one thing, we’ve got two Star Wars books — Agent of the Empire Iron Eclipse #4 (of 5) and Knights of the Old Republic War #3 (of 5). There’s also Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 Freefall #7, which marks part two of the "On Your Own" story arc, and Lobster Johnson: The Burning Hand #3 (of 5). All in all, a solid week for the publisher. And I haven’t even mentioned Conan!

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #2
DARK HORSE COMICS
Written by Brian Wood
Art by Becky Cloonan
Death has come for Conan and his fellow sailors in the visage of the privateer Bêlit! Rage and desire mingle in an orgy of slaughter as the barbarian and the pirate queen glimpse each other for the first time-as opponents in a battle to the last man!
If you missed it, the first issue, which we still have in stock, is well worth checking out. We remarked when it came out that it makes for a great jumping-on point if you’re new to the character. A total re-introduction with Conan taking to the high seas!
These titles and more all come out on Wednesday!

This Wednesday sees the release of a new series from superstar Brian K. Vaughan and artist Fiona Staples. It’s been a few years since we’ve seen new comics from Mr. Vaughan, so this is definitely good news. We’ve been fans of his work before — in the form of Y: The Last Man and Ex Machina, and even Lost — so we’ll definitely be checking this one out. Plus, you gotta give ‘em credit for that cover. Definitely not something you see every day.
