March 4th, 2012 at 5:05 pm - New Comics This Wednesday -
We’ll give Marvel the lead this week on the strength of Age of Apocalypse #1! Written by David Lapham and spinning out of the pages of Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force! Also from Marvel, Wolverine #302, Uncanny X-Men #8, X-Men #26 and Wolverine and the X-Men Alpha and Omega #3 (of 5), making it a pretty strong week for the X-books. Plus, Winter Soldier #3, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #8, Defenders #4 and more!
Over at DC, last week may have been a skip week for the New 52, but this week brings it back full swing with the first of the issue #7′s! Look for Action Comics #7, Animal Man #7, Detective Comics #7, Swamp Thing #7 and Red Lanterns #7 to name just a few! Not a bad line-up at all. Plus, Vertigo is debuting a spin-off title for one of our very favorite series, Fables, in the pages of Fairest #1!
Image has a solid week as well, with Fatale #3 and Spawn #217, while IDW is putting out 30 Days of Night Ongoing #5 and GI Joe Vol. 2 Ongoing #11!

DC released some designs from Jim Lee and Kevin Maguire for Earth 2. I must say I really like the Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman designs. The Supergirl design does not look that different, and the Robin one offers the most striking difference being female. I cannot wait for this book!
Conceptual artist Ralph McQuarrie, who served as the main designer on the original Star Wars trilogy, has passed away at the age of 82. Thanks for all of your brilliant work in science fiction, Ralph. May the Force be with you.
Once upon a time Dark Horse had a comic called Ghost. Fans of the book really loved it upon its release, however, most of this was probably because Adam Hughes was providing the art on the book. Sadly, Hughes was not able to maintain a monthly schedule and the book had subsequent artists that never really caught the luscious style of Hughes’ work. Well Dark Horse is reviving the character with writer Kelly Sue DeConnick and artist Phil Noto. Noto might not have the same kind of style as Hughes, but Noto’s art is gorgeous and I am very excited to try this character again. Look for the Ghost serial to appear in Dark Horse Presents #13 in June!
Actress Juliet Landau, who played Drusilla in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, will be writing a five-issue spin off comic starring Drusilla and taking place after the character’s appearance in Angel & Faith #9. Landau has previously written two issues of Angel: After The Fall at IDW in which Drusilla also appeared. The art on the mini-series will be by Cliff Richards and Tim Seeley.
