This did everything Marvel always promises Point One issues will do, but does not always deliver on. Not only does the story tie briefly into some of the storylines that have happened in this title as of late, it also manages to set up new possibilities for future stories, and together makes the issue great for new and existing readers.
Peter and Uatu both work at Horizon Labs, and all of the residents therein are curious about who the mysterious member of the research team is that Max Modell has been keeping behind closed doors. It turns out that Morbius is the mysterious member and was instrumental in providing the cure that fixed all those people that turned into mutant spiders during Spider-Island. Morbius has a bad reaction to a compound that makes him go bloodthirsty. Spider-Man ends up having to save the day.
I thought the story was a fun one-shot that ties in seamlessly to the story-threads on this book and by the end also connect back to an even older story as well. It was paced well, and shows that even with Peter having the job of his dreams things are not easy for him. It also adds some extra layers to Peter’s fellow scientists, fleshing them out a bit more. I am betting that Uatu figures out Peter’s secret before too long.
