I’ve got a lot to say today, readers, so I won’t waste your time with one of my trademark (and pointless) introductions about how I’m feeling today or what the weather’s like in MY neck of the woods or anything of the kind. But, since you ask, I’m feeling pretty good and the weather’s a balmy 50 degrees!
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #679.1
Cover by John Tyler Christopher
If you were to have seen this on the racks BEFORE reading my column today — for shame if that’s the case, because reading the Best Covers column should be a prerequisite for ANY trip to Cosmic Comix — but if you were to have seen this, you would have thought, "Well, that one’s gonna be one of Andy’s covers." And you’d be right!
I’ve always leaned toward the covers that stand out from the others, and this one certainly does that. The bright blue cover, the strong singular image. It just attracts the eye! Critics would say it doesn’t tell you a darn thing about what’s inside, but this particular issue is a Point One issue, so it’s designed to attract readers to Spider-Man himself!
Okay, okay, full disclosure: I know I’ve been rambling for far too long already and it’s all just a smoke screen. The REAL reason I picked this cover is because it reminds me of Whoopi Goldberg. Yes, Whoopi Goldberg. Because it looks like Spidey is emerging from a bath of blue milk!
