New Comics This Wednesday, Jan. 25

Justice League #5We’ll give the lead this week to Justice League #5 from DC Comics! But only because it’s a week late and people were growing concerned! Also from the New 52 this week, look for Flash #5, Aquaman #5, I, Vampire #5, Batman: The Dark Knight #5, Superman #5, Teen Titans #5 and more! Not a bad week at all. Also be sure to check out the newest collection of Sweet Tooth from Vertigo.

Over at Marvel it appears to be a little on the lighter side, but we’re still set to get X-Men Legacy #261, a double shot of Hickman FF with Fantastic Four #602 and FF #14, Mighty Thor #10, Secret Avengers #21.1 (with Rick Remender taking over as series writer), Ultimate Comics Ultimates #6 and Captain America and Bucky #626!

Perhaps even more notable than any of those — for some of you out there, anyway — is Walking Dead #93 from Image! What will we learn about the other settlements??

Looking Forward to March: Everything Else

Saga #1If you’ve been following along, you know we’ve already posted our picks for Marvel and DC for the month March. Like James Taylor said, "I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain…" Except it’s not like that at all because in our case we’ve seen Marvel and we’ve seen DC. At any rate, that must mean it’s time for Everything Else! Enjoy.

SAGA #1
IMAGE COMICS

Written by Brian K. Vaughan
Art by Fiona Staples

Y: The Last Man writer Brian K. Vaughan returns to comics with red-hot artist Fiona Staples for an all-new ongoing series! Star Wars-style action collides with Game of Thrones-esque drama in this original sci-fi/fantasy epic for mature readers, as new parents Marko and Alana risk everything to raise their child amidst a never-ending galactic war. The adventure begins in a spectacular double-sized first issue, with forty-four pages of story with no ads for the regular price of just $2.99!

A new series from Brian K. Vaughan! We’ve been fans of his work before — in the form of Y: The Last Man and Ex Machina, and even Lost — so we’ll definitely be checking this one out. Plus, you gotta give ‘em credit for that cover. Definitely not something you see every day.

News Roundup – January 21, 2012

ShadowWriter Garth Ennis will be relaunching The Shadow at Dynamite Entertainment with artist Aaron Campbell. There will be covers by Alex Ross, Howard Chaykin, Jae Lee, and John Cassaday. In related news, Dynamite is also reprinting Howard Chaykin’s run on The Shadow, entitled The Shadow: Blood and Judgment, from the 1980s. The book has been out of print for over twenty years! Look for both in April.

It looks like The Infinite by Robert Kirkman and Rob Liefeld should actually be called the Finite. It seems creative differences have sunk the book. Over at Bleeding Cool they note that five days ago Kirkman tweeted that they had tried a different inker/finisher on 14 pages of issue #5, but that split decision at Skybound meant they had to be reinked. Yesterday Rob Liefeld tweeted that creative differences have sunk the book because he seemed upset with wanting his art to look the way he intended. I do find it a little suspect that this happens literally the week after it was announced that Liefeld’s workload at DC was about to increase. I really want to see those art pages now. Sorry for fans of the Infinite.

Writer Roger Langridge will be writing a new Popeye comic for IDW with art by Bruce Ozella. This looks like a throwback to the original Popeye cartoons I loved watching in re-runs growing up. I actually cannot wait to read some of these. Langridge’s work on Thor: The Mighty Avenger is a favorite of mine.
