January 15th, 2012 at 5:00 pm - New Comics This Wednesday -
Gonna go out on a limb this week and NOT start with one of the Big Two! Why? Because two of our very favorite books are set to come out and they’re published by Image and IDW, respectively. If you are a savvy reader of the Cosmic Comix website you probably know already what two books I’m talking about: Chew #23 and Cobra Ongoing #9. I am totally convinced that they will both be awesome.
But at the same time DC is putting out what is arguably its best New 52 title with Batman #5! Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo have been killing it on this one and we eagerly await the next chapter in the mystery of the Court of Owls! Also look for Wonder Woman #5, Green Lantern Corps #5, Nightwing #5, Supergirl #5 and Catwoman #5, not to mention Fables #113 over in the Vertigo stable.
From Marvel look for Uncanny X-Men #5, Uncanny X-Force #20, Generation Hope #15, New Mutants #36 and Deadpool Max 2 #4 representing the X-family. Also check out Daredevil #8 as the second half of the crossover that kicked off in last week’s Amazing Spider-Man. Plus the final issue of Mark Millar and Leinil Yu’s excellent Icon series Superior!

January 15th, 2012 at 1:21 pm - Looking Forward -
When last we visited the Looking Forward department, we were treated to the picks for the hot Marvel titles set to come out in March! As is the way of things, that must mean that this week we’re heading over to DC Comics! March will be an interesting month for DC, because it looks like there will be not one but several new series in the Vertigo camp, plus a bunch of new storylines kicking off in the New 52. So let’s get right into it!
FAIREST #1
Written by Bill Willingham
Art by Phil Jimenez, Andy Lanning
New York Times best-selling, award-winning creator Bill Willingham presents a new series starring the female Fables. Balancing horror, humor and adventure, Fairest explores the secret histories of Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Cinderella, The Snow Queen, Thumbelina, Snow White, Rose Red and others.
The first 6 issue arc follows the misadventures of Briar Rose after she is stolen away by the goblin army in Fables #107. Fan-favorite artist Phil Jimenez (Wonder Woman, The Invisibles) returns to Vertigo to pencil the opening storyline. Award-winning cover artist Adam Hughes (Wonder Woman, Batgirl) provides covers, starting with a wraparound cover on issue #1.
Future arcs will be written by 2011 Arthur C. Clarke winner Lauren Beukes with art by Inaki Miranda, and iZombie scribe Chris Roberson with art by Shawn McManus! And remember: They may be beautiful, but there will be blood.
Great idea for a series! Fables has been one of our favorites for a long time, a trade paperback we spotlighted from the jump. And we’ve enjoyed the spin-offs immensely, most recently Cinderella: Fables are Forever. This series follows the exploits of not just Cindy but all the other lovely ladies of Fabletown as well.

January 15th, 2012 at 11:00 am - Weekly News Roundup -
The first bit of news this past week concerns the cancellation of OMAC, Men of War, Mister Terrific, Hawk and Dove, Static Shock, and Blackhawks at DC Comics with every one ending at issue #8. DC also announced six titles to replace those monthly books. They are:
Batman Incorporated by Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham, Earth 2 from James Robinson and Nicola Scott (this is the JSA book), World’s Finest starring Huntress and Power Girl from Paul Levitz and rotating artists George Perez and Kevin Maguire, Dial H which reinvents the Dial H for Hero concept from best-selling author China Mieville along with artist Brian Bolland (the book will be edited by Karen Berger, so I think it will have that Vertigo flavor), G.I. Combat with a main story by J.T. Krul and Ariel Olivetti and rotating backups with the Unknown solider by Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti, and Dan Panosian along with The Haunted Tank by John Arcudi and Scott Kolins, and finally we have The Ravagers which is a teen superhero book from writer Howard Mackie and artist Ian Churchill.
In addition to this news, on Friday it was announced that Rob Liefeld would be writing and illustrating Deathstroke starting with issue #9 in May. Liefeld is also slated to be co-plotting Hawkman and Grifter starting with issue #9 as well. What this means for Tony Daniel on Hawkman is anyone’s guess, but when I asked Nathan Edmondson on Twitter he simply said he was not involved with it as of issue #9. You can imagine how I might feel about this news.
