Can you believe I have not done a Showcase since last year? Granted, that was last week, but it seems so long ago. I want to take the opportunity to say Happy New Year to all the readers out there. I hope your New Year started well and continues to shape up to be the best year for every single one of you, especially if the Mayans are right and it’s the last one we ever get! Which books made the first Showcase in 2012? Well let me tell you…
There are some creative teams that need to make comics together for the rest of their careers. One such team is Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips who have done such great comics as Criminal, Incognito, and Sleeper. (All of which we carry at the store!) This team has the new book Fatale #1 being released this week which promises to blend a noir story with horror. The interesting premise and the resumes that proceed these two creators make this one a must read for me!
I have personally been enjoying Grant Morrison’s new take on Superman and Action Comics #5 is going to be an important issue for Superman fans and Morrison fans alike. The writer re-teams with Andy Kubert for a story that shows what happened on Krypton before Kal-El was sent to Earth. We get to find out what happened to Krypto and the criminals in the Phantom Zone. This issue should answer more questions about what has changed in the new DC52.
Brian Wood writes his first Marvel comic in a very long time with Wolverine and the X-Men: Alpha and Omega #1, a mini-series that pits Wolverine against Kid Omega for dominance of the Jean Grey School. Fans of the Wolverine and the X-Men comic will want to snatch this one up as it deals with the current status quo of that series. Should be fun.

This week we’re set to get the second issues of two big titles from Marvel Comics: Avengers X-Sanction and Defenders!
As for Avengers: X-Sanction, if I remember correctly last issue featured a big old fight between Cable and Captain America. This issue, it’s Iron Man’s turn. And remember, it all heads toward this year’s bix X-Men vs. Avengers event!
As we mentioned on Sunday, this week marks the beginning of the fifth month of DC Comics’ New 52 initiative! That of course means we get what has so far been one of the most interesting titles in the New 52: Grant Morrison’s Action Comics. It’s a young Superman, different in many ways from what we’ve seen before, and apparently in this issue we get a look at his past…
