Happy Holidays, you filthy heathens! This week I’m limiting the reviews to just three, but I included some great books! I hope everyone is either enjoying their holidays or about to!
ULTIMATES COMICS SPIDER-MAN #5
Marvel Comics
Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Art by Sara Pichelli & David Messina
One of the things I loved about the Ulimate Universe (and still do) is that things change in ways they never would or could in the normal Marvel Universe. When there is a great creative team behind it we get something cool, like The Ultimates, and when there is not we get something like Ultimates 3… see what I mean?
I have been very vocal about my dislike of the current Ultimate Comics Spider-Man book. This title had been my favorite Spider-Man title consistently for a decade. It showcased my favorite version of Peter Parker, not his youth, but the characterization. When it was revealed they would be killing Peter and replacing him with a new Spider-Man I initially had mixed feelings. It represented the thing I loved most about the Ultimate Universe: change. Nevertheless, over the years many Ultimate books lost their edge and fun, but Ultimate Spider-Man did not, and I did not want that to change.
