Shawn’s Showcase for Wednesday, December 21

Amazing Spider-Man #676Welcome to the special This-is-Your-Last-Chance-to-Buy-Presents-for-the-Holidays edition of the Showcase! Not only are we offering 50¢ comics, but we have a slew of fantastic new books to choose from this week!

The Dark Knight loves the holidays! He loves to unwrap a fist full of justice right into the face of criminals everywhere! And this week we get two glorious Batman books to read! First, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo continue their run with Batman #4, building on Gotham City’s mythology as Batman faces a new enemy. And then we get Batman Incorporated Leviathan Strikes #1 from Grant Morrison! This latter book serves as the “season finale" to the Batman Inc book and sets the stage for Morrison’s Bat-book next year! Two books that will be defining the Bat-Universe for 2012! Don’t miss them!

The Sinister Six return in Amazing Spider-Man #676! Something tells me the Peter Parker is not getting any time off for the holidays! But if Marvel wants to give me a gift this year they could start by getting MJ and Peter back together. Remember, Marvel, it is better to give than to receive and I am going to need you to give that one to me!

The holidays are all about family and last issue Diana found out a lot more about hers than she probably ever wanted to know! Just when she thought she had all her shopping done her mom tells her she was not made from clay and instead has a dad she has never bought a gift for. What do you get someone that says, “Sorry, I did not know you existed”? Wonder Woman #4 should be extremely interesting as a result!

Uncanny X-Force #19It seems like just a week ago that we saw the last issue of Uncanny X-Force… wait a sec! It WAS just a week ago! Batman #4, Justice League #4

Batman #4This week is one of our favorite weeks for DC Comics and The New 52, because we get both Batman and Justice League! They’re two of the biggest titles in the DCU and, arguably, the two best. We’ll start with Batman…

BATMAN #4

Written by Scott Snyder
Art by Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion

Shocking discoveries lead Batman deeper into the mystery of the Court of Owls and its secret and bloody ties to both Gotham City and the Wayne family. But an even deadlier threat awaits Batman: a trap set hundreds of years ago, far beneath his city. The war for Gotham’s soul begins here!

Of this issue, Scott Snyder recently said, “Now, with Batman #4, we’ll finally learn why it is Bruce is so resistant to believing that the old legend about the Court of Owls could be true. We’ll dig deep into Bruce’s past to uncover his relationship to the Court, a group that claims to have been ruling Gotham City from the shadows since Colonial days. And as for what the Court has in store for Batman – well, you’ll just have to wait and see. But I’ll say that the horror they bring to bear against him constitutes one my favorite sequences out of anything I’ve ever written.”.”

Justice League #4It’s been awesome so far, and I have no doubt this week’s issue will also be awesome.Same goes for Justice League!

JUSTICE LEAGUE #4

Written by Geoff Johns
Art by Jim Lee

The superstar team of Geoff Johns and Jim Lee continue the origin of the Justice League as The World’s Greatest Heroes face the might of Apokolips – and find aid in an unlikely hero, as Cyborg is created! Plus, Andy Kubert returns an amazing variant cover – his first new work after the smash-hit FLASHPOINT!

Last time around we got to meet Wonder Woman. This week, if that cover is any indication, it’ll be Aquaman! He’s been holding his own over in the Aquaman title, very curious to see how he does here.

DC Comics’ Batman #4 and Justice League #4 both come out on Wednesday!
