October 16th, 2011 at 5:05 pm - New Comics This Wednesday -
I think the two words on everyone’s lips this week will be, if I had to guess, FEAR ITSELF. Not only are we set get to Fear Itself #7, the last installment of the epic event, but we’re also looking at Fear Itself Fearless #1, the first issue in the twice-monthly follow-up series that seems to inform the entire Marvel Universe! Also from the House of Ideas, Avengers #18, Wolverine #17, Invincible Iron Man #509, Journey into Mystery #629, Uncanny X-Men #544 and final issue of Mark Millar’s Superior!
Over at DC, we’re definitely looking forward to Batman #2! The first issue was our favorite single comic book last month and we’ve got high hopes that the series will continue strongly. We’re also ready for the next issue of the New 52′s flagship series with Justice League #2! Other DC #2′s include Catwoman, Nightwing, Birds of Prey and Legion of Super-Heroes!
Also look for the first issue of the new 30 Days of Night ongoing series, Godzilla: Gangsters and Goliaths #5 and, because Shawn would be annoyed if I didn’t mention it, FreakAngels Vol. 6!
The full list follows…

WALKING DEAD
SERIES 1 ACTION FIGURES
With civilization itself tottering after the outbreak of the zombie plague, fomrer police offier Rick Grimes leads a group of survivors in search of shelter and safety as zombie hordes roam the countryside in Robert Kirkman’s best-selling comic book, The Walking Dead, from Image Comics.
Fans of the series can add characters from the series to their collections, including Officer Rick Grimes (includes bag of weapons), Michonne (comes with sword and tools of revenge), the Zombie Lurker (includes removeable arms, skull, guts, and torso), and the Zombie Roamer (includes removeable arms, axe, and exploding head action).
Each figure is highly articulated and features a sculpt based on the artwork from the best-selling series.
October 16th, 2011 at 11:15 am - Looking Forward -
As it was last month and the month before, and will likely be next month, picking the DC Comics titles we’re looking forward to was a little tricky for December. I didn’t want to include any of the issue #4′s because most of them are still in their initial story arcs and most people know what series they want to be reading. So this month I went with a couple new mini-series, some Vertigo titles we love, and a couple big collections! Enjoy.
BATMAN INCORPORATED
LEVIATHAN STRIKES #1
Written by Grant Morrison
Art by Cameron Stewart, Chris Burnham
In this sensational, giant-sized one-shot spinning out of Batman Incorporated, Batman realizes to his horror that he’s been outwitted as the true identity of Leviathan continues to elude him. Is his deadly adversary an old foe with a grudge to settle, a new face of evil… or something completely different? Only one thing is certain: You won’t soon forget the shocking ending!
This one’s for all those people out there who were reading Grant Morrison’s Batman Incorporated before the launch of the New 52… and there were definitely quite a few of you! It wraps up some of those threads and tells a whole lot more in this double-sized issue.

October 16th, 2011 at 11:00 am - Weekly News Roundup -
With the New York Comic Con going on this weekend there was lots of cool news leading up to, and during the Con. Though I expect next week’s column will be chalk full of news bits I missed out on I did manage to get some juicy morsels for you Heathens to chew on. Enjoy!
One of the coolest new bits from this past week was learning that Ann Nocenti will be taking over as writer on Green Arrow starting with issue #7. Her run on Daredevil with John Romita Jr was one of my all-time favorites! I cannot wait for this. I am honestly going to have to make Green Arrow a regular monthly read soon! Who knew?!
Look for new Shazam to relaunch in the near future. Before the character gets his own book he will show up as a backup story in Justice League called The Curse of Shazam that will be written by Geoff Johns with art by Gary Frank. I wish this was an ongoing or mini-series already, but Gary Frank on Shazam? That’s awesome! Look for it starting with Justice League #5.
It looks like Warren Ellis’ run on Secret Avengers will sadly only be for six issues. In February writer Rick Remender (who has been killing it on Uncanny X-Force) is taking over the series with artist Gabriel Hardman. The team will consist of new members including Captain Britain, Beast, Black Widow, and others. Hawkeye will be leading the team. This actually sounds quite cool.
