News Roundup – September 4, 2011
After one week DC Comics has to be happy with the sales of Justice League #1. The first printing sold out and orders for a second printing are already full, thus DC will be doing a third printing, using the Jim Lee San Diego Comic Con cover that was on the Brochure.
In addition before the first issues even hit the stands Hawk & Dove #1, Justice League International #1, Batman & Robin #1, Action Comics #1, and Batgirl #1 have all sold out. That means reorders will take awhile for all of you waiting to see whether you want to pick it up or not. Both Action Comics and Batgirl have been approved for second printings though so hopefully the rest will if they sell out too. (UPDATE: Don’t Fret though, Cosmic Comix will still get our orders, so don’t forget to come in and get your copies!!)
For all of you long-standing fans DC has thrown in the appearance of a mysterious hooded woman into all of their #1 issues it seems. She first appeared in Flashpoint #5 offering a warning to Barry Allen as he traveled through time and merged three different worlds. She then appeared in Justice League #1. At this point she has been verified in both Animal Man #1 and Hawk & Dove #1.
Marvel has more CrossGen on the way. A new mini-series for a revived Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang will be coming in December from writer Peter Milligan and artist Ramon Rosanas. I never read the original book, but I know many readers that liked it at the time. Milligan’s name alone means I’ll at least be checking it out.
With a slightly different look at DC there is a great website called DC’s 52 TOO that finds many independent comic book creators drawing their versions of a DCU reboot/relaunch. It’s fun to look through all of the designs and I’m not lying when I say I wish some of these ideas were actually in the new DCU!
In February Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Peter Nguyen will also revive CrossGen’s Route 666 for Marvel Comics. It’ll be a four-issue mini-series.
Marvel has promoted the Alpha Flight series from limited to ongoing and will continue under the creative team of Greg Pak, Fred Van Lente, and Dale Eaglesham.
DC clarified that in addition to the Clark Kent/Lois Lane split that Barry Allen and Iris West will also no longer be married. Let’s see Barry Allen messing with Time Travel has ended two marriages, removed the JSA from the regular DCU, and he may have wiped Wally West, Donna Troy, and Jack Knight from continuity. That Barry Allen is a jerk. They should have retconned Wally’s marriage and kept him.
Marvel will be canceling Herc with issue #10. That’ll teach them to make a Hercules series without Amadeus Cho. True Story.
In Marvel’s upcoming The Fearless 12-part series from writers Matt Fraction, Cullen Bunn, and Christ Yost, and artists Mark Bagley and Paul Pelletier we will learn the fate of the Asgardian hammers on Earth. Valkyrie and Sin will be the main characters in the series.
The Walking Dead will premiere its second season with a 90 minute first episode. It will be followed by six episodes and then go on a break until February to finish out its remaining six episodes.
The Wolverine film has had its filming pushed back from Fall to Spring of next year. The downside of this is Fox is having Mark Bomback rewrite the Christopher McQuarrie script many insiders have said was really freaking good. To put this properly McQuarrie wrote “The Usual Suspects.” Bomback has written the remake of “Race to Witch Mountain.” Yeah, the news didn’t excite me either.
And finally in a move by George Lucas to make me hate Star Wars even more, the Blu-Ray editions of the original Star Wars trilogy will find Darth Vader’s climatic scene with the Emperor in Return of the Jedi to be a little less manly. Instead of lifting the Emperor off of killing Luke in silence Vader will be uttering the horrible “NoooOOOOOoooOOO!” chant, similar to what we saw at the end of Revenge of the Sith. In honor of those of us whose childhoods have been sullied, I offer you exhibit A as to why Lucas needs to let other people run Star Wars from now on:

Just to be clear. The DC comics are selling out at the distributor level. Cosmic Comix has plenty of Justice League #1′s and will have plenty of DC comics this Wednesday for you! – Rusty
LOL – it is confusing when they report sell outs, people don’t understand they are not talking at a retail level.
Shawn, the biggest travesty about the new blu-rays is that the Ewoks now blink! They blink!
Matt: The Ewoks blinking are the least of our troubles.
EVERYONE ELSE: We’re going to have lots of Action Comics #1 and Batgirl #1! Plenty of all the others too! Cosmic Comix has got you covered like you wouldn’t believe!
