I am saddened today. Very saddened indeed. Mainly due to ULTIMATE COMICS FALLOUT #2 (OF 6). Not because Peter Parker is dead. Those tears dried long ago. For my dream. My fervent wish. My ultimate desire for the Ultimate universe. Which is, of course, to see Aunt May become Ultimate Spider-Grandma. Slapping Captain America and collapsing on the church steps just ain’t gonna get it done! And, alas the dream looks dead…
I am also saddened today because I received a Dear Rusty (aka Dear John) letter courtesy of THUNDER AGENTS #9 this week. Seems Len is leaving me. Dear Rusty. Yadda Yadda Yadda. I want to tell you how sorry I am for failing you. Yadda Yadda Yadda. Take care beautiful. I love you. Yours always, Len. I would be sadder but I really don’t remember Len, it did happen 28 years ago, and I think I was a woman at the time…
But enough with my personal problems. Onto my nominees for the week!
AVENGERS #15 – Really enjoying both the Fear Itself Avengers and New Avengers tie-ins. Spider-Woman talks this time around. And I will totally nominate another TV screen Bendis talky! That is a bit of a misnomer. There is a huge hammered-up Hulk vs. Spider-Woman, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel fight raging throughout the issue. And, of course, Hawkeye loves Spider-Woman.
CRIMINAL MACABRE GOON WHEN FREAKS COLLIDE – Freaks do indeed collide as Steve Niles pits Cal McDonald against the Goon! Seems like they were both hired to do the same job. Loved the last page surprise cameo! Won’t spoil it here. Was out of the blue and random but very cool nonetheless. I will spoil the last page to FEAR ITSELF FEARSOME FOUR #2 (OF 4). Also out of the blue and very cool. Little blast from the past as the all new, circa 1991, Art Adams Fantastic Four makes a dramatic return.
DAREDEVIL #1 – Absolutely worth checking out. I thought it was excellent. And I think you should read it.
FLASHPOINT THE OUTSIDER #2 (OF 3) – Liked it even more than issue #1. Feel like I know who the Outsider is now. Bunch of cool bits. Took out Black Adam no problem. The freefall was sweet. And another surprise ending. He-who-shall-not-be-named showed up. Made me happy. Although I’m not sure why.
FLASHPOINT WONDER WOMAN AND THE FURIES #2 (OF 3) – Leaves me speechless. Cause it’s all back story. We know what’s gonna happen. Cause it’s all based on a misunderstanding. Three’s Company. And yet, I love it.
INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #506 – No Grey Gargoyle this time around. Paris is toast! Tony confronts Odin. Help me build weapons. Odin sends him to see the dwarves. Here’s the best two pages. And more than enough to get it nominated.
POWER GIRL #26 and ZATANNA #15 – As time draws ever closer for these two lovely ladies of DC and their boot from the “titled” new DCU I would like to take this opportunity to wish them well. Two quality series that I have enjoyed throughout. And Dick Grayson summed up the JLA’s situation at the end of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #59 quite nicely, “okay then, I’ll make it official. For us, for our version anyway…I hereby adjourn the last ever meeting of the Justice League of America.” The new DCU is coming and we have a free guide waiting just for you!
- Previously: After a hopeful cough, Carl’s health returned to a state of uncertainty.
- Currently: Totally Awesome! Absolutely loved the ending. And Rick’s dead wife hung up on him!
See ya!
Rusty
