July 17th, 2011 at 5:00 pm - New Comics This Wednesday -
Marvel kicks off the week with the release of the all new Daredevil #1, Marvel Universe vs. Wolverine #2, Ultimate Comics Fallout #2, and ten, I repeat, ten Fear Itself tie-ins!
DC gives us War of the Green Lanterns Aftermath #1, plus an assortment of titles featuring the lovely ladies of DC, Power Girl #26, Cinderella #6, Supergirl #66 and Zatanna #15 and a far more sane, and very consistent, four Flashpoint tie-ins!
As to the rest, Walking Dead #87 tops the list, along with Marineman #6, a Criminal Macabre/Goon team up, the start of a new Locke and Key series, Rocketeer Adventures #3, and a new Boys mini-series, Butcher Baker Candlestick Maker #1.
The full list follows…

Last but not least this week, here comes the Corps!
Proving once again the the DC relaunch in September is just that – a relaunch – all of the Green Lantern titles are picking up straight from the aftermath of the War of the Green Lanterns. No reboot here. It is the next logical step for longtime readers and a great jump-on point for new ones.
GREEN LANTERN #1
Written by Geoff Johns
Art by Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy
The red-hot GREEN LANTERN team of writer Geoff Johns and artist Doug Mahnke introduce an unexpected new Lantern.
Regular readers of Green Lantern know that the hand on the cover of the first issue is not Hal Jordan’s. What does that mean for Hal and exactly whose hand is it? Well if you are new to the game I do not want to spoil the surprise. I just want to say I called this back during Blackest Night. Where’ s my no prize? What do you mean they only give those at Marvel?

DC’s next generation of Super Heroes get some fresh looks and new series all under the banner of "Young Justice". These are not your parents’ teenage superheroes!
TEEN TITANS #1
Written by Scott Lobdell
Art by Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund
Tim Drake, Batman’s former sidekick, is back in action when an international organization seeks to capture, kill or co-opt super-powered teenagers. As Red Robin, he’s going to have to team up with the mysterious and belligerent powerhouse thief known as Wonder Girl and the hyperactive speedster calling himself Kid Flash to stand any chance at all against a living, breathing weapon with roots in another world! They – along with a few other tortured teen heroes – will be the Teen Titans in this new series from writer Scott Lobdell (WILDC.A.T.S, Uncanny X-Men) and artist Brett Booth (JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA)!
I will admit the costume redesigns may put some longtime fans off, but super teenagers in the 21st Century shouldn’t wear the same kind of costumes their mentors would! And I would not be surprised to see the characters change their looks often as the series progresses. (How many teenagers do you know stick with one look for long?) Dan Didio stated that often times the Teen Titans acted too much like grown ups and wanted them to instead act like the teens they are. That’s the kind of Teen Titans book I would like to read.

Hi. It’s Shawn again. Time for some more from the new DCU!
Of all of the DC books being relaunched in September, the Superman books appear to have changed the most. It will be interesting to see what changes have occurred, and exactly how Superman is going to be written now. Don’t mind my skepticism!
ACTION COMICS #1
Written by Grant Morrison
Art by Rags Morales and Rick Bryant
The one and only Grant Morrison (ALL-STAR SUPERMAN) returns to Superman, joined by sensational artist Rags Morales (IDENTITY CRISIS), to bring you tales of The Man of Steel unlike any you’ve ever read! This extra-sized debut issue is the cornerstone of the entire DC Universe!
Grant Morrison on a Superman book is probably the most obvious choice of all of DC’s writing talent. His All-Star Superman is regarded by many as some of the best Superman stories of all time. Morrison has already stated he is writing a "working class" Superman, and Action Comics, at least at the beginning, will focus on the first year of Clark Kent as Superman. Rags Morales’ art looks gorgeous on First Wave and I cannot wait to see him take on the Man of Steel!

July 17th, 2011 at 11:00 am - Weekly News Roundup -
I am excited about the new DC books; however, I am going to miss the Secret Six, easily the best non-Batman/Green Lantern title DC puts out on a monthly basis. There is an online petition to bring the book back. If you love the book as much as I do please take the time to sign it. If you don’t care, know I will find out where you live, and sign it anyway. Thanks!
This past week saw the release of Jonathan Hickman’s first creator-owned series in years entitled The Red Wing. The writer will be going the Warren Ellis route and is creating a series of graphic novellas (40-page one-shots) for Image Comics. (Ellis did quite a few novellas for Avatar.) These graphic novellas kick off in October with the release of Feel Better Now, a story of psychiatrists that begin tinkering with their patients (pranks that turn deviant) out of boredom. Sounds great! Not only is Hickman writing but he is also illustrating the book. 40-pages for $3.99. Now that is a great value. If you want to read more about the upcoming book you can check out Hickman’s interview at CBR.
