Flashpoint #3

Flashpoint #3My pick is Flashpoint #3 this week. For many, many reasons.

First of all, to open with the french fried, mummified Barry Allen moaning on his gurney…AAARRRGHHHHH! I just need…a bigger bolt of lightning. Was absolutely hilarious. Wow. Did I laugh. And I loved Batman’s response. You’re out of your mind. Yah think. Barry better let that morphine take effect. But then, then, Barry does get hit by a bigger bolt of lighting. And it worked! He got his speed back. Couldn’t believe it. Great opening.

Now, Flashpoint, at least to me, has seemed to be many non-connecting stories up to this point. Not so sure anymore. Flashpoint #3 touched on Lois Lane and the Resistance. Grifter and the Canterberry Cricket. Aquaman and Wonder Woman. Steve Trevor. Abin Sur. Even mentioned the Outsider. And of course Superman shows up in a big way.

But they did it in a way that makes me want to read Lois Lane and the Resistance #1 and the Canterberry Cricket #1 and Abin Sur #1 and Project Superman #1 again. So many times the ancillary titles to an "event" seem meaningless. Flashpoint #3 succeded in making me more interested in the "spin off" titles than ever before. And I gotta go back and read them all again!

Plus, the main plot crystallized with this issue. Barry Allen, Batman, and Cyborg are putting the band back together! Otherwise known as the Justice League of America. And we are starting to see just how Flashpoint will impact the new DCU!

I’m starting to believe Flashpoint will have a much larger impact on the new DCU than I orginally thought.  Flashpoint #5 and the new Justice League #1 both ship on August 31st. The rest of the new DCU follows in September. Gonna be interesting. Heck. It’s interesting now! Read it up!

P.S. – Loved the Krypto skeleton!

See ya!

Best Book of the Week Poll – Jul. 6

Detective Comics #878 won last weeks poll. No shocker there. Not only is it a quality comic, but I think Jim and Andy K. stuff that ballot every week it ships. Which is a good thing. Shout it out if you like it!

My nominees went up yesterday. And since I’m always telling Andy B. to list as many books as possible on the Poll each week (and in fact we have tried a couple of different interfaces to make it possible to list all the books each week but have had no success as of yet) it’s a mighty long list today. Vote it up! – Rusty
