The best written book of the week was GODZILLA GANGSTERS & GOLIATHS #1. John Layman. Chew. Yeah. It was great. The best executed comic of the week was X-MEN PRELUDE TO SCHISM #3. What a wonderfully constructed engaging issue that sets up Schism perfectly. The best story of the week was in FLASHPOINT WONDER WOMAN AND THE FURIES #1. Loving my Amazons and Atlanteans!
But I will be going with INVINCIBLE #80 as the best book of the week because something new finally happened! Actually quite a lot happened and boy oh boy did Invincible need it.
One of our favorite series from way back had been mired in the Viltrumite War for the last year or so and that, combined with a very erratic shipping schedule, caused the title to lose some of its luster.
INVINCIBLE #80 hopefully changes all that as we get multiple new plot threads and really a new direction to the title as a whole.
Loved that Mama and Papa Invincible left earth on the first page! Goodbye and good riddance. Loved that they didn’t dwell on Eve and her non-baby this issue! Per Eve. I just don’t want to talk about it anymore. Per Rusty. Neither do I.
Loved the scene with the wannabe bank robber villain. Oh crap. It’s Invincible. I can’t fight you. I thought I might run into Rex Splode. Rex Splode I could handle. Rex Splode is dead. Jeez, I’m sorry. I surrender. Please don’t punch me.
Loved Mark Grayson’s visit to the comic book store. What the heck? Did every series start over with a new number one issue? Just wait, Mark. You ain’t seen nothing yet. The new DCU is coming!
And I loved the end! A giant red dinosaur wants to destroy Sin City, aka Las Vegas, cause it’s sinful! Invincible shows up to save the day. Hah! I found your bomb, Mr. Dinosaur. Now whatcha gonna do? Well, I’m going to blow up the other 50 bombs I have hidden around the city….VMMMM!!!!! Goodbye, Las Vegas!
Felt like a new beginning. A new start. Heck you could even call it a re-launch! And it made me very happy.
See ya!
Rusty
