Uncanny X-Force #8

Uncanny X-Force #8Easy pick for me this week cause UNCANNY X-FORCE #8 was fantastic.

Basically a one issue one shot dealing with the Shadow King. And what I loved most about it was it was an entire story arc condensed into one issue! Introduced the Shadow King at the beginning and defeated the Shadow King at the end. Thought the issue was going to end with a cliffhanger on multiple occasions but it just kept going and going and the story came full circle…in only one issue!

And in the age of decompressed story telling that we live in today, that is a rare occurrence. Especially in a Marvel superhero book. Uncanny X-Force began with a four issue arc introducing Apocalypse. Followed up with a three issue arc about Deathlok. And now a one shot. Props to Rick Remender and his X-Force team for keeping the story rolling. Love the pace!

Plus there is an underlying story to it all. Obviously Apocalypse is playing a major roll. Haven’t seen the last of him yet. Fantomex took center stage in the Deathlok arc. Now it looks like Archangel will be the focus. And it all ties together.

Pace. Action. Art. Story. X-Force has it all. Now if someone will just take out Deathlok everything will be perfect. – See ya! Rusty

Best Book of the Week Poll – April 22

The latest chapter in Jason Aaron’s excellent Punishermax series took down last week’s poll in commanding fashion… and by "commanding fashion" I mean "tying with None of the Above, but because I am in charge I am breaking the tie and going with Punishermax!"

And, though Rusty proclaimed this to be a light week in his nominees post, there are nevertheless some solid books to choose from. My own favorite was probably Iron Man 2.0 #4, but we also got a Fear Itself tie-in with Invincible Iron man #503. Arguably the best pound-for-pound X-book came out with Uncanny X-Force #8 along with the conclusion to what many (see: Rusty) are calling the best mini-series of the year in Wolverine & Jubilee #4. And DC’s ladies held their own in Power Girl #23, Zatanna #12 and Supergirl #63. Plus more! So what’s YOUR pick?
