Cosmic Madness Bracket Winners

Cosmic MadnessAs we announced yesterday, the winner of COSMIC MADNESS 2011 was the Justice League of America! But they aren’t the only winners this week, NO SIR.

At the beginning of the tournament we invited you to fill out your own bracket with who you thought would win each game, with prizes for the top seven spots! We have now tallied up the points (as described here) and we have the winners!

Andy KGRAND PRIZE: Andy K! With a final score of 94 points, Andy K. is the winner of the $100 gift certificate! Congrats, Andy! (Check out the proud winner.)

RUNNER-UP: Jim M! Just barely missing out on the grand prize, Jim came in with 93 points! For his effort, Jim will take home a set of four (4) Fantastic Four hardcovers!

Witchfinder #3Though it is certainly a beautiful day out there, my friends, today is also a day filled with an air of both triumph and tragedy. Cosmic Madness 2001 is over. With its completion comes a mighty victor in the JLA, but it also leaves a hole in our hearts. We here at the Best Covers desk hope everyone had a great time voting for their favorites. We would also like to let you know that we’ve created a sub-committee to investigate just exactly who was responsible for Secret Society of Super-Villains making it all the way to the Final Four! You ruined our bracket!

Though Mike Mignola is one of my absolute all-time favorite artists, it’s actually pretty rare that one of his covers makes it into this column. In fact, I can’t remember the last time. Why? Well, not to make any excuses for old Mike, but his style is such that a lot of the covers have a tendency to blend together for me in a "seen one, seen them all" kind of way.

What sets this one apart is that it A) doesn’t feature a dead-looking skeleton person holding what appears to be a holy spear of some kind, and B) does feature a bulldog. A bulldog that is A) drooling a river of lava, and B) snorting fire.

I just hope this doesn’t signal the coming of Gozer.
